Camp Anokijig
Camp Anokijig has been recognized for excellence in camping for 83 years. Founded in 1926, Anokijig has built a history and rich tradition of offering youth experiences that will last a lifetime.
Anokijig is an Indian word meaning "We Serve" but it is also synonymous with new friends, positive values, personal growth, great adventures, and outrageous fun. When you combine that with our dedication to offering campers an experience that emphasizes values such as caring, honesty, respect and responsibility, you have a combination that can't be beat.
Camp Anokijig is open to boys and girls ages 7 to 16. Our summer session begins June 14, 2009. Programs last from three days, one week, two weeks, or for up to nine weeks of summer fun, ending on August 15, 2009.
Anokijig is not just another place to go, it is a community...a spirit shared by all who visit. Camp Anokijig is simply an incredible time that you will always cherish. Join us; you will love it!
Residential Camp:
This camp is for the camper who wants to do it all! It is a well-rounded summer vacation with more activities available than you can imagine. Participate in Skill Periods, All-Camp Activities, Sectional Activities, and Directed Free Time.
Mini Camp - 3 Days 2 Nights:
A taste of Anokijig...A short visit at Resident Camp for the younger, 1st time camper, or those with busy schedules. An introduction to all the fun and adventures of camp life, with the option to extend for the week. Mini Camp begins each Sunday of the summer schedule and ends Tuesday evening.
Ranch/Horse Programs:
All campers in "Resident Camp" may choose to participate in horse related activities on a daily basis. But, if you want to spend more time down at the corral, you can sign up in advance for one of our two horse related specialty programs: “Ranch" (7th grade and up)or "Circle A Riders"(4th - 6th grade). Campers spend a portion of their day learning horsecare and riding techniques through horseback games on our working ranch. Each camper is given their own horse to care for during the week.
Competitive Swim Camp - July 5-July 11
This program combines all the activities of Anokijig with a focus on the sport of competitive swimming. It is designed for current age-group competitive swimmers (YMCA or U.S.S.) Activities include two hours per day at the pool concentrating on stroke techniques, starts, and turns. Swimmers are video taped and receive a written evaluation on all four strokes.
Fishing Expeditions Programs:
This is an exciting program that will be filled with variety, adventure, and a fishing good time. We will learn to fly fish and travel to a premier trout area where we always catch our dinner. We will night fish from a pontoon boat looking for Northern, Bass, and Pan fish. We will use a variety of baits from live to artificial and try new techniques. We will fish from shore, docks, and boats. We will top the week off with a Lake Michigan Charter trip (weather permitting) to bring home the real big ones. If you like to fish or want to learn, this will be the highlight of your summer. This is the best of both worlds.
June 21 - June 27 and July 19 - July 25 for campers in grades 4 and up.
July 5 - July 11 and July 12 - July 18 for campers in grades 7 and up.
