Voted a Top 10 college town by the New York Times, Amherst is a wonderful place to spend the summer. As the center of the Five College Consortium, Amherst is home to students from the University of Massachusetts and Amherst, Smith, Hampshire and Mount colleges. Even the most casual visitor will notice the impact of college students on this small, New England town: posters cover lampposts announcing concerts and coffee house speakers and excellent bookstores, independent music shops and good coffee are easy to find. The rolling Berkshire foothills are ideal for hiking and biking and the proximity of both Boston and New York City make Amherst a great base for college visits and exciting weekend trips. Holyoke

As an ASA student at UMass, you will become part of a close-knit, academic community, learning and living together, creating memories that will last a lifetime. Every day you'll have opportunities to join both exciting activities with the entire program and smaller more independent ventures with a few close friends.

The ASA program at UMass is designed to provide students with an engaging and exciting academic experience, a rich social experience and the wonderful camaraderie of a summer program with a student body that is diverse in both their interests and their cultures. ASA classes are focused and interesting, adding hands-on, active opportunities wherever possible. They're also of great quality, taught by experienced professors. After all, if you're going to take a class this summer, why not make it a meaningful one? In addition to coursework, the ASA UMass program offers fantastic opportunities to form friendships with interesting new people. The staff are engaged and involved and play a pivotal role in helping students adjust and enjoy their ASA experience. Weekend trips are also key, with days spent at the beach or in Boston or at Six Flags, summer could hardly be more interesting.
