CAMP LOHIKAN

- A 52 YEAR TRADITION -

Let the FUN begin!

65+ Daily Activities, Weekly Special Events, Camp Trips, Inter-Camp Games and an awesome Evening Activity every night of the summer!

Since 1957 Camp Lohikan has been owned and operated by the Buynak Family.  For 52 summers the Buynak Family and Camp Lohikan's dedicated staff has provided campers with a caring, safe environment in which to make new friends, professional instruction to learn new skills and sharpen old ones, and a friendly camp atmosphere where FUN happens all the time!

We have a great summer planned for 2009 and we invite you to join us in the FUN!

JUNIOR PROGRAM (age 9 and younger):  Junior campers travel as a cabin group with their cabin counselor to activities designed for their age group.  Certain activity sites offer electives which allows the juniors some choice in their programming.  Counselors are specially chosen for their experience and ability to work with younger campers.

INTER/SENIOR PROGRAM (age 10 and older):  Older campers get to choose all of their activities at Lohikan.  Activities are chosen on a weekly basis and adjusted daily.  It’s individualized scheduling at its finest!  You can adjust your schedule to travel with friends or specialize in as many activities as you want.  The choice is yours!  And your activity choices are guaranteed!

Regardless of age or program format, particular attention is paid to camper supervision and safety throughout the day.  Program activities are instructed with appropriate emphasis on skill development and FUN!

FIRST-TIME CAMPER PROGRAM: First-time campers are our specialty!  We have a comprehensive program (before, during, and after the camp season) designed to make the first-time camp experience an easy and successful endeavor.  We even offer first-time camping families a Great Camp Guarantee which provides for a tuition refund if the camper leaves camp early.  Risk free camping is here!

TEEN PROGRAM: The individualized format of our daily program is ideal for teens.  In addition to the free choice program format, activities are coed for teenagers.  Evening activities and special events are operated by division.  Senior division events are geared for our oldest campers like: Senior Beach Parties, DJ Disco Extravaganzas, Senior Socials, Senior Trips, Senior Tiki Bivouac, Senior Snack Bar & Game Room, Senior Experiment Week, Lohikan’s Camp-A-Palooza Concerts, and lots more!  Teenagers who age out of the program can continue their camp experiences by joining Lohikan's Junior Staff Mentoring program.  Participants in the Leadership Training Program are guaranteed a counselor staff position at camp after 2 summers of leadership training.

65+ DAILY ACTIVITIES:  In addition to the activities listed above Camp Lohikan also operates the following activities on a daily basis: Swimming (recreational and instructional), Sailing, Volleyball, Wake Boarding, Canoeing, Scuba Diving, Windsurfing, Canoeing, Tarzan Lake Swing, Rave Water Trampoline, Circus Arts, Flying Trapeze, Dance, Drama, Music (Guitar, Bass, Keyboards, Drums, Voice), Adventure Program Backpacking Trips, High & Low Ropes, Rock Climbing, Zip Lines, Delaware River Canoe Trips, Outdoor Living Skills, Creative Arts (14 workshops), Woodworking, Ceramics, Pottery, Rocketry, Chess, Radio Broadcasting, Video Production, Photography, Cooking, Computers, E-mail, Mountain Cycling, Roller Hockey, Water Sports, Track & Field, Fitness Training, Martial Arts, Wrestling, Archery, Riflery, Flag Football, Mt. Cycling, Cheerleading, Fishing and lots more!

INSTRUCTION:  All activities are headed and instructed by professionals and supported by a staff of college-enrolled instructors who are certified in their field of specialty.  Beginner through advanced skill levels are accommodated and in certain activities private lessons are available, i.e., tennis, equitation, music.  In addition to instructional classes, recreational time is provided in all activities.

SPECIAL SUMMER CLINICS for 2009: Clinics are specially scheduled and staffed, concentrated instructional programs designed to focus the camper's attention and time on improving a specific set of skills.  Certain clinics are an outgrowth of programs already operating on a daily basis but offered to provide campers, with strong interest, an opportunity to become immersed in the activity (3-4 hours per day) with the purpose of producing more advanced skills in a relatively short period of time, i.e. High 5 Basketball Clinic, Competitive Tennis, Skate Camp, Robert Clement’s Pro Golf Clinic, etc.  Other clinics feature programs and activities (skill development) not offered in the camp's daily activity line-up, i.e. Spy Camp, Survival Camp.

In addition to building skills and providing amusement, the Clinics Program lends diversity to the summer camp program and are very popular with many of our campers.  This summer's clinics include: Spy Camp, Rock Band Camp, The Equestrian Clinic, Paintball Camp, Hip Hop Clinic, Cheerleading Camp, DJ Clinic, Competitive Tennis Clinic, High-Five Basketball Clinic, Robert Clement’s Pro Golf Clinic and Skate Camp with Pro Adam McNatt!

CAMP STAFF:  When it comes down to it, camp staff is what a successful camp is all about.  A great camp experience is only possible with great camp staff.  This is where we shine!  Our 50+ senior staff members are adult professionals who assume supervisory responsibilities in camp and at least 90% return every summer.  Our in-cabin counselors are college-enrolled staff members who return at a rate better than 50%.  Ninety percent of our staff are Americans who are recruited across the United States for their skills, experience and ability to work with children.  All staff members are interviewed, references contacted and criminal background checks performed.  During our pre-camp orientation period staff members are certified in safety procedures, qualified for instructional responsibilities and trained in providing the supportive, nurturing camp atmosphere that has characterized Camp Lohikan since its beginning.

CAMP MISSION: Our mission is to provide the staff, the program and the caring, supportive camp environment that will enhance the camper's artistic, athletic and social skills and, with positive encouragement and reinforcement, develop in the camper a greater sense of self esteem and self confidence.

MEDICAL STAFF:  A camp physician is in residence the entire summer.  In addition to the camp doctor, 5 registered nurses and 3 assistants staff the camp health center which is open 24 hours a day.  Our 52 year safety record is impeccable.

CAMP FACILITIES:  Camp Lohikan is situated on 1200 acres and located high in the northeast Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania.   The campsite is surrounded by preserved forested landscape and overlooks picturesque streams, a private lake and miles of mountain vistas.  The mountain air at a quarter mile above sea level is clean and dry.  Summer days are typically warm and the nights are cool.  It’s the ideal location for summer camp!
