Summer Discovery at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, offers students a wide range of academic and social activities designed to help students transition from high school to college.  Renowned for its unparalleled cultural and academic environment, fervent school spirit, and athletic success, the University of Michigan is consistently ranked as one of America’s top ten universities, one of the “Public Ivy’s.” The largest pre-med and pre-law university in the country, U-M excels in the classroom and beyond. Summer Discovery students’ access to the facilities of the university, city of Ann Arbor and its environs offer a superb introduction to college living and learning.

Summer Discovery course offerings are designed around the vast resources and personnel available at the University of Michigan and surrounding area. We often use Ann Arbor and its environs as our extended classroom. Field trips related to class topics are an integral part of the academic program. Most classes are small, informal, and personal — encouraging constant student/teacher interaction. Summer Discovery @ Michigan students enroll in 2 enrichment classes for each session they attend. All courses listed meet during the 3-week and 2-week sessions, unless specifically noted. 3-week session classes meet Monday-Thursday. 2-week session classes meet Monday-Friday.  Classes meet for 11/2 to 2 hours. Most courses require some preparation outside of class, and may have papers and/or tests. In addition, students attend our innovative evening workshop series, “Preparing for College and Life Workshops” which meet 1-2 evenings per week.  Courses for college academic credit are not available at the Summer Discovery @ Michigan program. Please consult with your parents and guidance counselor/college advisor when selecting your courses.

The Rand McNally Guide selected the University of Michigan as having the best cultural environment of any American campus. The campus is in the heart of Ann Arbor, a city of 130,000 people, where everything is within easy walking distance. Ann Arbor has a small town, Midwestern feel, with all of the cultural and social opportunities of a big city.  Being a member of the Big Ten Conference, Michigan enjoys long standing football rivalries with the Ohio State, Penn State, University of Wisconsin, Northwestern and Notre Dame,  From the theater, concerts, and dance of the Summer Festival and nationally acclaimed Ann Arbor Art Fair, to the famous homemade ice cream and frozen yogurt at Stucchi’s, Ann Arbor is one great college town.  In addition, students will have the opportunity to participate in several activities and excursions including trips to The Rock and Rook Hall of Fame and Cedar Point Amusement Park in Cleveland, Ohio, Sega Gameworks, a weekend trip to Chicago and much more.
