ASA Summerfuel in Florence is one of three residential programs the company offers in mainland Europe. ASA Summerfuel Florence is a cultural immersion program with an emphasis on arts and humanities. There is no language requirement for students who wish to attend ASA Florence, and students finishing grades 9 – 12 can apply. This year, ASA Florence will take place between June 26 and July 24th.
All students will live in Convitto della Calza, located in the Oltrarno district, just south of the Arno river. The Oltrarno district is home to a number of well-known Florentine landmarks, including the Boboli Gardens, the Piazzale Michelangelo and the Pitti Palace. It is a short walk from the Ponte Vecchio, and a number of other landmarks in the city center. There are many shops and restaurants in close proximity to the residence hall, so students need not venture far to dine or indulge in some shopping.
Students will choose two course electives to participate daily. Full course listing can be found on our website. In addition to class time, students will also participate i ndaily activities and a variety of included trips and excursions.Past activities have included Bargello Museum, the Duomo, the Ferragamo Museum, the Campanile di Giotto, the Boboli Gardens, the Pitti Palace, the Marino Marini Museum and the San Lorenzo market.
Other activities include olive oil tastings, gelato hops, high tea at the Hemmingway Café, Italian movie nights, karaoke night, night swimming, hip-hop dance classes, soccer in local parks, baci ball, city tours, etc.
Additionally, Summerfuel students will travel as a group on a variety of exciting weekend excursions including Pisa, Siena, Cinque Terra, Lucca, Viareggio and Cortona.
