DescriptionBack to top
Acts2Acres opened in June of 2007.  We sit on 5 acres of property that includes 2 jumping arenas and a round pen.  We stable up to 12 horses.  Most of these horses are used in our riding program. We teach children the basics of horsemanship, barn management, grooming, tacking up and tacking down, caring for horse and tack, and riding instruction.  The camp activities provide children with a 5 day course in barn management, horsemanship, caring for horse, vet visits, ferrier visits, learning about feed and hay, grooming and bathing of horses, learning to tack up and tack down, and one on one riding instruction every day, Monday thru Friday.  We have trained instructors, as well as plenty of volunteers; the children are never without supervision around the barn and stable area, and never in the presence of the horses without trained instructors or volunteers with them.

SessionsBack to top

During the summer camp week, we divide the children in groups of 4 and those 4 groups rotate during the day between riding, barn management, horsemanship, earning of badges for the girl scouts, arts and crafts, and an informal, non-threatening group study on the virtues such as love, patience, kindness, etc.  We do use the Bible as our basic guide, with interactive videos to help the children visualize each of the virtues.  Children bring their lunches and during lunch we usually put in an instructional video about horses, grooming, horse shows, etc.
