Air Force JROTC Summer Leadership School
Summer Address:

A summer adventure in learning awaits Air Force JROTC Cadets, as well as cadets from other branches and teens. Here the principles of leadership, and team work are taught to create responsibility, trust and confidence in the individual students. This is not boot camp. This is advanced leadership training in the style of Officer Candidate Schools tailored to the needs and abilities of teens. Cadets challenge each other and themselves in squad competitions. All events are mission driven, either pass or fail. Special priveleges are afforded squads who complete the most missions. Instructors are former military and current AFJROTC. Male and female instructors as well as male and female chaperones are present at all times. Adult escorts are available to meet cadets at the airport in Las Vegas. This is an AFJROTC approved Summer Leadership School, paritially funded by AFJROTC. It also includes some Honors Camp elements. Our program does not emphasize activities normally associated with other Leadership Camps which in most cases would more appropriately be called Orientation or Mini-Boot Camps. It is specifically designed for upcoming AFJROTC Cadets wishing to advance through the cadet NCO and Officer ranks. This is an intense leadership training course designed to produce leaders who can succeed in any endeavor of adolescent and adult life. This is training for future officers in the military, captains of industry, political leaders, government and public service leaders and the heads of organizations of all types. Our training method is primarily experiential as opposed to instructional such as is employed at school. Students learn by doing, failing, trying it again, and finally getting it right. Experiential training subscribes to the proposition that we learn more from our mistakes and failures, than we do from our successes. Students come to relish every success and failure they are able to garner at our camps, and they soon learn that both of these result in the kinds of valuable life lessons that are not soon forgotten. Our camps accommodate 50 coed cadets and we have five or more qualified male and female instructors on hand at all times, in addition to AFJROTC Instructor/Chaperones. This is a ratio of one instructor per ten participants which is more than the ACCT requirement of one instructor for 15 participants. Our instructors are all certified to ACCT standards (Association for Challenge Course Technology) to facilitate all of our outdoor Ground Based Initiative Events, as well as our Low Ropes Course events. All instructors also have had fingerprint background checks, both state and FBI, and have been cleared to work with adolescents. The expected outcomes of this training are: 1. Cadets better prepared to take the top leadership billets in their AFJROTC unit and who will be motivated to stay in AFJROTC through high school. 2. Cadets who are moving towards adulthood, ready to put aside the things of childhood, and start taking more responsibility for themselves and their lives. 3. Cadets who embrace challenges with a can-do attitude. 4. Cadets who understand that all failure moves them a step closer to success. 5. Cadets who will seriously start considering a college education as a possible goal. 6. Cadets who have learned to resolve conflict for the benefit of all concerned. 7. Cadets who are familiar with, and ready to embrace and practice, the Leadership Styles, Principles and Traits they have learned in our AFJROTC Leadership Camps when they rejoin their units.
