For all our Guitar students this year, we welcome Rich O'Brien to the camp! Over the past two decades Rich has played a key role in the award-winning music performed and recorded by Western Music Hall of Fame members Don Edwards and Red Steagall, among others. Not only has there been great demand for his guitar playing; his skills as an arranger and producer became so evident that he is widely recognized as one of the genre's very best producers. He has now played on or produced over 200 recordings, appeared on numerous national TV and radio broadcasts, performed twice at the White House and many times at the nation's most widely-recognized western music events. Rich is recognized as one of the very best in the world at Western Swing guitar and his playing skills are legendary. What an opportunity to study with this treasure of a musician!

When it comes to Upright Bass, Jake Hooker is indeed another master musician! We welcome Jake to our camp as our Bass instructor. Jake began playing the bass at the age of seven and practiced diligently until he mastered the honky-tonk sound. Jake formed his own band at the age of 14 and began performing. By the age of 18, Jake was playing bass and singing full time. He studied music and theory at South Plains College in Levelland, Texas .  Jake moved to the Fort Worth area in 1998 where he quickly became the local favorite. Jake signed with Southland Records that same year and began recording. Jake's popularity continues to grow. Not only is he a tremendously talented and popular vocalist, but he’s also earned the reputation as the new Country and Western Swing icon on Upright Bass, both in studios and live on stage . His love and passion for traditional country music never ceases. Jake is strongly influenced by the sounds of Ray Price, Johnny Bush, Farron Young, Curtis Potter, Leon Rausch and Darrell McCall. He spends much of his spare time studying these artists.

We are happy to welcome back Jim Loessberg as our Pedal Steel instructor! Jim’s  musical career began at about age 10 with an interest in playing the drums.  His dad, Les Loessberg, was a steel player, and he would go with him to his jobs and sit in with the band.  He played drums professionally for the first time when he was 14. At the age of 17 he first became interested in playing the steel guitar.  He had the good fortune of having been exposed to the best steel players in the world as a teenager.  He attended shows regularly to see Buddy Emmons, Jimmy Day and Rick Price, who was then playing for Johnny Bush.  These early influences in his life contributed to the great steel player that he would become. The more he heard his dad and those other great players play, the more he wanted to try to make those beautiful sounds. By late 1980, he was travelling with a play called the Best Little Whorehouse In Texas. He loved doing the show, but left the show to go to work with Johnny Bush and played with him for the next seven or eight years. As Bush continued to record, he began using Weldon Myrick on his records.  “I loved everything Weldon did and I learned every lick on very song on every album!”  Jim continues to be one of the finest pedal steel players in the country and is a first call session player.
