DescriptionBack to top

In addition to teaching youth fundamental sailing skills, the Brigantine Incorporated program also provides adventure, challenge and team work experience. Living aboard a traditionally rigged tall ship provides an excellent environment for the development of discipline, self-esteem, self-reliance and responsibility in young people. This environment is augmented by a twenty four hour watch system, in which trainees are always sailing the ship, or monitoring her at anchor with the help of experienced crew members.
Duties for trainees range from meal preparation to meal cleanup, from manipulating the massive sails, to steering the ship. The crew provides on-the-job instruction and training for all those who attend the cruises.
