Frog Hollow Craft School in Middlebury, VT is located on the banks of the beautiful Otter Creek falls. We offer creative, fun, arts based Day Camps for children and teens. From pottery to papermaking, cartooning and digital video our summer programs and vacation week camps build self confidence and self esteem through arts exploration. Our pottery studio operates year round with an on-site studio manager and resident potter. Established in 1971 as a youth center and craft school for the local community, we welcome individual students, school groups and special organizations to our facilities. We also can create special classes for family groups, home school students or other small groups. We are located within walking distance to the Middlebury College Campus, 30 Minutes from Burlington and Lake Champlain, and 15 Minutes from Lake Dunmore.

Children's Summer Camps Middlebury 2007 Camp Frog Hollow To REGISTER ONLINE Please click on the class title. To Register by Phone, please call 802-388-3177. Adventures in Video Instructor: Jodi Bergedick (Held in collaboration with Middlebury Community Television.)Each student will use digital video cameras and editing equipment to make a short movie of their choice incorporating live action, basic animation, and video magic in which people and objects suddenly appear and disappear. Each student will also participate in an interview format using the official MCTV talk show set. Students finished videos will be shown on the public access channel and at Frog Hollow. Classes will be held at Mid. Community TV studios third floor, Ilsley Public Library. All materials included. July 23-27 2:30-4:30PM ages 8-12 Limit 10 Course # 1595 Tuition $86 3 little pigs.jpg Masks and Puppets Come Alive Instructor: Steve Myott This visual and performance art camp is designed to challenge and stimulate young imaginations. Participants will use recycled materials to create their own unique masks and inventive puppets. They will explore ways to develop a storyline, manipulate the puppets, and find expression through the use of the masks. The workshop will culminate in an original performance for family and friends. Steve Myott has extensive experience as a performing artist, director, and teacher. He was a public school arts teacher for 12 years, a theatre professor at East Carolina University, and a volunteer with the Bread and Puppet Theatre for several years. He has touched the lives of thousands of young people through his performances and workshops. August 6-10 5 classes Limit 10 Session 1, Ages 6 and up 9-11:30 AM Tuition $92 Course # 1596 Session 2, Ages 8 and up 1-4PM Tuition $96 Course # 1597 Paper Extravaganza for Children Instructor: Gail Martin Explore paper! In this four-day, three-hour class, students will make paper from pulp, and then make awesome origami. The papermaking exploration will create papers with plant and fiber inclusions, and paper that can be used for books, cards and sculpting. We will make clever and colorful origami models that flap, fly, pop out, hold snacks and bring joy. July 10 13 9 Noon 4 classes Tuition $135 Ages 8 and up, Limit 6 Course # 1600 Magic Felted Frog Camp Instructor: Brigette Oesterle The process of using wool to make art is like making magic! Well start the week using Kool-Aid to dye some of the wool to be used for the weeks' projects, and then gather our other materials from the natural surroundings of Frog Hollow. Kids will learn some wet felting in the river and needle felting techniques while making a large river rock turn into a frog or other river creature; well make an orange become a secret treasure box & brightly colored squishy play balls that wont break windows and wooly soaps. Weather permitting; the felting will be done outside at the river so please have your child bring a sweatshirt or sweater. July 30-Aug. 3 10AM-1:30PM Ages 8 and up 5 classes Limit 10 Tuition $192 Please bring a bag lunch. Course # 1601 Felted Frogs Rock for Teens Instructor: Brigette Oesterle The art of wool felt for the teen provides hands on experience from the beginning of the process with carding (combing) the different types of wool locks, then dying with Kool-Aid. Well use this wool in some of the projects scheduled for the week like: a hanging birdhouse, a secret treasure box using an orange as a base, Funky Fish or River Creature using large rocks as a base, and pick your project day where you can choose from a fun multicolored handbag or fanny pack made with wool, silk, and/or other fibers or for the guys, a mask from the same materials complete with crazy hair and big bubbly eyes to see through. If we have time well make wooly soap and embellish some of our work with beads and other goodies. Ages 12 and up. July 30-Aug. 3 2:30-5:30PM 5 classes Limit 10 Tuition $168 Course # 1603 Young Artists in the Making Instructor: Stephanie Beach A week of painting and drawing classes designed for all ages to have fun together. All students will be encouraged to make personal artworks pieces about themselves and their surroundings, exploring life at their present age. Its a time for fun, patience, and daring expression both in the studio and outside in nature. Everyone will have opportunities to complete self-portraits, landscapes, and abstract works of art. Please wear paint clothes and bring a lunch. August 13-17 from 10AM2PM 5 classes Ages 8 and up Tuition $148 (Materials fee $20) Course # 1604 Constructing with Nature Instructor: Rachel Brewer If you enjoy using your imagination to change piles of stones into abandoned fairy castles or criss-crossed branches into forts for trolls this is the class for you! We will use materials we find in nature to create forts for grasshoppers, a house for a mouse and mobiles full of feathers. Come to class ready for exploring the area around Frog Hollow and use your creativity to change what we find into imaginary worlds! Ages 6 and up.
