DescriptionBack to top

The purpose of Camp Al-Mu-Mee-Neen is to provide a summer Camp for Muslim children that combines all the enjoyment, games and learning experiences of a Camp within an Islamic atmosphere. The Camp creates a medium in which Muslim children from various ethnic and cultural backgrounds can meet and interact.
Formal religion sessions and religious instructions are not the primary focus of the Camp. The Camps daily schedule includes periods in religion, arts and crafts, swimming, canoeing and other outdoor activities. The Camp also follows a travelers schedule for performing the five daily prayers. Children also have the opportunity to sing songs and put on skits at nightly social hours and camp fires. The Camps' main emphasis is to provide an Islamic setting in which children can learn to become comfortable with being a Muslim in North America. The Camp aims to show children with various levels of Islamic knowledge how to apply their beliefs in this society.
The boys and girls cabins are strictly separated, however campers have the opportunity to interact in a supervised setting during mealtimes and in many daily activities, excluding waterfront activities.
The staff of Camp Al-Mu-Mee-Neen is composed primarily of volunteers with only the cooks usually receiving any pay.
