Located on a perfect lake in Minnesota, Camp Birchwood offers campers ages 7 to 17 with a tremendous variety of water sports as well all kinds’ fun things to do “on land”. Every day, girls choose four activities they want to do the next day. These include: sailing, windsurfing, waterskiing, tubing, knee-boarding, wake-boarding, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, mountain biking, tennis, horseback riding (Western, English & trail riding), archery, riflery, arts & crafts, pottery, drama, dance, fitness sports, and the opportunity to go on a variety of out-of-camp wilderness adventure trips (via kayaks, canoes, and bikes).

With caring, dedicated, and insightful college-age women as instructors, girls have the amazing opportunity to not just “do” activities, but to become very accomplished in many different areas. Girls go home with lots of confidence and an “I can do it!” attitude. The friends they share their days with, space with, and memories with, are friends to last a lifetime. And without boys around, girls enjoy a much-needed break from the image-based pressures and competition they face in today’s society. A passion for providing girls with a genuinely kind, welcoming, and accepting place has been the focus of Birchwood for nearly 50 years.

Camp Birchwood welcomes girls who have a positive attitude and are willing and able to participate fully in the entire camp program, each day. This includes following camp rules, meeting safety requirements in each activity, adhering to cabin guidelines, and respecting camp property. Campers are expected to show kindness, respect their peers and staff, cooperate willingly, tolerate differences, practice compromise, and handle themselves appropriately if/when immediate counselor supervision is not realistically possible.

We intend to have environments that are free from discrimination and void of violence, intimidation, and/or harassment based on race, creed, color, national origin, religious beliefs, or disability. Language and attitudes that disrespect or debilitate campers or staff members are not tolerated. Possession and/or use of tobacco, alcohol, and/or illegal drugs is grounds for dismissal. We do not tolerate emotional or physical abuse or the threat of abuse. Any behavior which affects a child’s ability to participate, or seriously disrupts our program, may require dismissal. For the protection of every child’s interest, we reserve the right to immediately dismiss an camper, without refund. In all cases, parents will be notified and are responsible for all travel expenses.
