Camp Capers
Summer Address:

Camp Capers
Camp Capers is nestled on 76 acres of rolling Texas Hill country above the banks of the Guadalupe River, 40 miles northwest of San Antonio. Every summer, approximately 2000 campers ages 8 through 18 have the opportunity to experience the unconditional love and friendship of a Christian community through each of our one week sessions. Through God’s grace, Camp Capers is committed to offering fun, life-changing experiences to children and youth in a safe, Christ Centered community.
Leadership
Leadership at camp is provided by paid staff and counselors and volunteers who go through a rigorous selection process including background and references checks, and face to face interviews. They must also attend a week long training session before camp begins. Each session is guided by deans, chaplains, and teachers who are clergy and lay leaders from the Episcopal Diocese of West Texas.
A Day in the Life of Camp
Ten campers live with two counselors in simple, beautiful stone cabins. A 7:30 AM wake up bell begins each day, followed by breakfast and then light clean up duties. Next is morning chapel which campers help plan and lead. After chapel, campers spend a portion of their morning in teaching based on a Christian theme. The other half of the morning includes games and sports.
Lunch is served at noon followed by rest period. There are three activity blocks in the afternoon consisting of swimming, tubing, kayaking, and arts and crafts. Dinner is at 6 and afterwards the camp gathers for music and singing, followed by the evening activity. The evening activity might include capture the flag, scavenger hunts, Human Clue, skits, bonfire, or other activity. Each day ends with singing and worship. Campers then return to their cabins for devotionals and lights out.
Summer camp sessions provide each camper with daily opportunities to sing, play, laugh, interact with friends, and learn about and grow in their relation to God. Camp Capers is a sacred place where the Holy Spirit continues to move in the lives of all who step on the grounds. The goal of every staff member is provide a safe and loving environment for young people to experience Christian relationships and the awesome power of God’s love.
An atmosphere of caring and acceptance pervades at Camp Capers. Children, youth and adults work, play and grow together as they develop a community of trust, openness, and sharing. Participants are challenged to grow spiritually, physically, emotionally, and socially. Opportunities abound for making new friends, meeting people from across the state; learning new skills, taking responsibility for oneself, others, and God’s world; and having lots and lots of fun!
