They come from large cities and small towns in search of such luxuries as completing a sentence without interruption; sitting down to dinner (one they didn’t prepare themselves) and remaining at the table the entire meal, or reading a book in genuine peace and quiet. 

Yes, women from ages 25 to 75 have found a magical place where they get away from it all, at least for 48 hours, called “Camp GetAway” in Southern California.

Camp offers women weekends to relive the youthful spirit of summer camp, but with special pamperings, too: facials, massages, manicures and pedicures along with yoga, “feminars,” and other grownup gal treats.  A camper’s time here is all her own to do as little or as much as she pleases.  

When you hear about the heavenly offerings, it’s hard to believe this is camp, not a spa.  From scrapbook projects, chatting with girlfriends for hours or taking a nap under the pines, to the old-time fun of canoeing, archery, crafts, campfires, hikes, sing-a-longs and more, women are flocking back to summer camp.   

Camp GetAway weekends take place in the mountains near Big Bear, CA, an easy drive from Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego.  Out-of-staters usually arrive via the Ontario International Airport.
