Camp Guanacacho
Summer Address:

Young adventurers (between 7th and 12th grades) from all over the world come to Costa Rica to experience what Camp Guanacacho has to offer. With an emphasis on Back-to-Nature, Camp Guanacacho is situated on a 250 acre working farm, located just 45 minutes northwest of San Jose yet remote enough to feel thousands of miles away from city life. Costa Rica is one of the most diverse regions in the world, with a spectacular variety of tropical flora and fauna, and Camp Guanachacho is a microcosm of all these exciting choices. Surrounded by dense primary and secondary forests, the camp also features several springs, waterfalls, and a small lake. On the grounds, organic fruit orchards and vegetable gardens thrive on the fertile soil, broad vistas in every direction with two volcanoes in the distant background. Camp Guanacacho has all the features of the world’s best summer camps - diverse, challenging activities, bilingual and multicultural exposure while set in a beautiful locale. However, what makes Camp Guanacacho different is our emphasis on fun and function. Too often today’s youth is technologically wise but environmentally unaware. As our world’s population grows, green spaces become reduced. At Camp Guanacacho, our aim is to use outdoor classrooms and hands-on experiences to develop our campers’ global environmental awareness. Before the end of each session, campers will have the opportunity to plant trees, ensuring the continuance of the Costa Rican ecosystem and creating their own personal legacy. When they leave, each camper will have memories of fantastic adventures, but they will also have a greater understanding, appreciation, and respect for nature in all its diversity.
