Camp Hazen YMCA “...This was my daughter’s first time away. Her counselors were wonderful. She could not stop talking about her experience. She was and is still singing songs and talking about everything she did.” -Camper Parent A Philosophy That Makes Sense…For 88 years, Camp Hazen has been dedicated to working with young people in our camping program building self-esteem and self-confidence. Our goal is to provide each participant with a safe, FUN, and memorable experience. Stressing the values of Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibility, each person learns that Character Counts! Through sensitive, mature leadership, participants learn these values by example. Our Program…Campers participate in our resident camp program according to their age and grade level. This allows for individual camper success since the programs are age-specific. Each camper chooses activities in five program areas allowing them to try out all that camp has to offer . . . including new and different activities not always offered at home. The five program areas are: Outdoor Pursuits, Water Sports, Creative Arts, Quest and Land Sports. In each of these areas, campers choose from a huge variety of fun and challenging activities . . . a chance to really experiment and learn new skills. We also offer Teen Xcellent Adventure Trips, Teen Leadership programs and Day Camp programs. Nestled in the Rolling Hills of the Connecticut River Valley, Camp Hazen YMCA is part of the quintessential New England village of Chester. Charming winding roads pass by the waterfalls of the Pattaconk Brook until you arrive at the main gate of Camp. At Camp Hazen, you will find that scenic Cedar Lake is central to many of the activities for the campers. With over 150 acres of woodlands, lakes, streams and fields, and adjacent to the 1700-acre Cockaponsett State Forest, Hazen offers one of the greatest locations for summer camp. Only 2 1/2 hours from Boston and New York City, Camp Hazen is convenient, yet rustic enough to provide a traditional and adventurous summer experience. Our Staff: A Key Ingredient...Our wonderful staff of cabin counselors and program specialists are what makes a stay at Camp Hazen so great. The staff are mature, enthusiastic, creative and well-trained. They are excellent role models for children, chosen for their ability to create a warm, caring, and diverse community for kids. They truly are a special and important ingredient in each child’s camp experience. The administration of Camp Hazen is composed of full-time YMCA professionals who are dedicated to the philosophy of Camp Hazen. All of our staff share a sincere commitment to the development of youth. Our Mission...Camp Hazen YMCA is committed to helping youth develop valuable life skills through camping experiences that build healthy bodies, open minds and awakened spirits.
