Welcome to Camp Katuah!

Camp Katuah is a coed, summer resident camp program designed to introduce children 7 - 15 years old (entering 2nd - 10th grade) to the basics of Permaculture. Through exciting hands-on projects and exploration, campers will learn about natural building, native plants and wildlife, energy and alternative technologies, soil science, and much more!

What is Permaculture?

Permaculture blends natural science, native traditions, and technology to teach ecological awareness, build life skills, and foster an appreciation for the earth and all peoples and cultures.

Weve got lots of great activities planned for this summer! Check out a sampling of what Camp Katuah has to offer:

  • Natural Paint - Campers will use local clay and other natural materials to make colorful paints. The paints will be used in art projects throughout the week.

  • Solar Ovens Campers will learn about solar power, and then each camper will construct his or her own portable solar oven. Weather permitting; well test out the ovens by baking pizzas! (session #1 only)

  • Earthen Ovens Campers will work as a team to design and build an earthen bread oven. The ovens will be used to bake bread for our end of session cook-out. (session #2 only)

  • Gardening - Campers will design and construct a garden at the camp and plant it with native perennials and trees.

  • Tie-Dye Campers will use plant materials to make beautifully colored natural dyes and tie-dye T-shirts.

  • Soil Exploration Campers will use microscopes to observe the tiny life forms in a spoonful of soil.

Other Camp Katuah activities will focus on:

         Native Plant Identification

         Local Ecosystems

         Water Exploration

         Communication Skills and Teamwork

         Natural Building Techniques

         Observation and Problem Solving Skills

         And much more!

Campers will also have time to enjoy traditional camp activities such as:
