Camp Kippewa’s Equestrian specialty program combines the fun and traditions of sleepaway camp with top-notch English riding instruction for all levels of riders. Our program stresses safety, fun and skill development. Six days a week, riders enjoy small group instruction with individual attention by dedicated riding staff. Once a week, girls learn stable management, horse care and grooming. Located on camp grounds, the stables are convenient for all campers to access. The facility includes 29 stalls, grooming areas, three rings and ½ mile trot track.
Creative expression is the cornerstone of Fine Arts & Crafts at Camp Kippewa. Campers can concentrate in the fine arts of painting, drawing and photography, or learn a craft through hands-on instruction in pottery, needlecrafts, knitting, textile arts, silk-screening, leathercraft, jewelry making, woodworking and stained glass. A dozen studios fill three buildings and careful scheduling keeps the classes small and fun for girls of all levels.
Campers participate in all aspects of Dance & Theater from acting and singing to choreography, set and costume design and stage management. Daily improvisation, camper-written skits and theater games result in fun and laughter. Theater workshops and dramatic exercises lead to the chance to shine in plays and musical reviews for the whole camp. We produce two productions each session in our Playhouse. Dancers experience small group instruction in ballet, jazz, modern and hip hop, and choreograph their own dances for the annual dance show.
Water Sports take place at our Lake Cobbosseecontee natural shoreline waterfront. Girls enjoy our extremely popular water-ski program with new ski boats featuring teaching booms. Our sailing fleet features Sunfish and GP-14s so girls can sail alone and in groups. Windsurfing, canoeing, kayaking and fishing keep our lake one of the busiest spots in camp. Red Cross swim instruction is located at our swim docks along with fun on the slide and water trampoline.
The Land Sports program is fun, instruction-based, and non-competitive. With first-rate instruction in softball, soccer, lacrosse, beach volleyball, field hockey and more, girls gain skills and confidence while having a blast out on the field. Our extremely popular tennis program attracts players of all levels – from beginners to baseline pros. Gymnastics in our well-equipped gym is a favorite as girls tumble and flip their way into the annual gymnastics show.
