Camp Lakey Gap for people with autism
Summer Address:

We offer a unique program approach of therapeutic recreation using visually structured programming, 1:1 and 1:2 positive support from well trained college and graduate students, development of independent living skills, and opportunities for engaging in social interaction with peers.
Campers grow emotionally and socially at camp by experiencing social success, being empowered to take leadership roles, successfully trying new things, and being supported in a positive and loving environment. With the support of your camper's counselor they are encouraged to explore the camp environment and try activities like arts and crafts, hiking, outdoor games, swimming, canoeing, music, and much more.
Camp Lakey Gap recognizes that each camper brings their unique point of view to camp. At all of our activities we strive to cater to your camper's individual needs and interests. Whether it is insects, reptiles, outer space, Pokemon, Thomas the Tank Engine, or Star Wars, we find a way to help your camper enjoy camp in their way.
Requirements to attend the camp include:
- Diagnosis of an autism spectrum disorder or a related communication disorder
- Gaurdians must live, be vacationing, or have an emergency contact within an 8 hour driving distance of Black Mountain, NC.
- Manageable behaviors and health care needs, to the level of the staff's training
