The Stampfer Center, home of Camp Solomon Schechter, offers a truly unique setting for a Jewish camping experience. Our spectacular 160 acre facility located in Olympia, Washington features breathtaking views of our private lake and the untouched beauty of our forests and protected wetlands. Campers will enjoy our numerous sports fields, heated cabins with their own bathroom, kosher dining hall, and full swimming and boating access to our lake and the Deschutes River.
Daily activities are supervised by our trained counselors, and full time professional medial and Jewish education staff who help guarantee a successful camp experience.
Campers can look forward to talent shows, skits, Karaoke night, Double Dare, carnivals, campfires, Israel Independence Day, Canada Day, fireworks, dances, capture the flag, scavenger hunts and many more fantastic evening programs. CSS campers also share cabin programs that strengthen the bond between campers and counselors, and provide lifelong memories.
Safety is First
Having a high staff-to-camper ratio makes Camp Solomon Schechter a safe place for children. We maintain a fully equipped infirmary, staff by physicians and registered nurses who stay at camp throughout the summer sessions. The camp is within a few miles from major health care providers. Our waterfront staff is Red Cross lifeguard certified and our entire staff receiving Red Cross first aid training.
Amazing Facilities
While at camp, campers sleep in winterized bunk houses, with indoor bathrooms and showers. We recently completed two new bunkhouses allowing us to invite 300 campers to enjoy the summer with us. Camp Solomon Schechter boasts a stunning private lake view directly outside of our Chadar Ochel (dining hall). Each day, campers can appreciate the natural, rustic setting while taking part in a variety of activities. Prayers and Shabbat services are held at our outdoor Lehrer Family Amphitheater overlooking Lake Stampfer. With the Deschutes River flowing through camp, campers can look forward to overnights along the river, as will as fun, educational acitvies.
Of every experience a child has, summer camp is one of the most rewarding and influential, with benefits that last a lifetime. A summer at camp raises self-confidence, builds decision-making skills, improves social skills, and enables a child to reach inside themselves and discover talents and abilities they never knew they had.
Jewish camping has been identified as one of the most important influences a child can have in building Jewish identity and commitment. In fact, studies show that a Jewish camp experience while young doubles the chances of having a strong Jewish identity as an adult. At Camp Solomon Schechter we emphasize the values of tzedakah (charity), tikkun olam (repairing the world), and teva (nature) to create our ideal Jewish community.
Campers leave Camp Solomon Schechter with a renewed sense of Jewish identity and belonging. Jewish activities and programs play a crucial role at camp, with Jewish themes weaved into daily life. All of this is done in a way that makes being Jewish fun and exciting. Our Judaic program includes and on-staff rabbinical intern, visiting community rabbis, Bar/Bat Mitzvah training, Israeli Dancing, Interactive Tfillah, Educational activities, Shabbat and rousing song sessions!
