Nestled on a lake front property in the beautiful Haliburton Highlands of Ontario, Camp Towhee provides the perfect environment for making new friends and achieving success. Camp Towhee's three-week sessions help campers discover their strengths and increase their confidence and independence. Camp Towhee is committed to helping campers feel accepted and celebrated for their unique talents. We understand the specific challenges imposed by learning disabilities and strive to make necessary accommodations so that every camper can feel successful.

Highly qualified, experienced and caring staff provide physical and emotional safety in ways that allow campers to learn and have fun. We have a high staff-to-camper ratio, so you can be sure that we are there for the campers. We provide specialized assistance and group experiences so that campers can maximize their social competence and enjoy the magic of belonging.

The programs at Camp Towhee are designed to challenge campers to push beyond their limits and build their confidence in unique and exciting ways. A variety of traditional and specialized camp activities are offered, including arts and crafts, music, woodworking, low and high ropes courses, rock climbing wall, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, theme days, interest clubs, wilderness camping, and counseling support.

Dates for Towhee 2009

Session One: (10 - 13 year old campers) July 4th to July 25th. Visitor's Day: July 18th

Session Two: (12 - 18 year old campers) Aug 1st to August 22nd. Visitor's Day: August 15th

Application Deadline:

The deadline for applications for Camp Towhee 2009 is November 14th, 2009. Applications will be processed on a first come first served basis, until all spots are filled.

Camp Fees:

The fee for the three-week session camp session is $2400. This includes transportation, laundry services, all meals and snacks, all activities and special events.

 

Eligibility:

Applicants must have a current psychological assessment that indicates the presence of a learning disability and average or above average cognitive reasoning skills (IQ)

Applicants may be experiencing social, emotional, or behavioral problems related to their learning disability. However, children and youth referred to Camp Towhee should be able to manage an intensive residential program without one-one support.

Requests for application packages are made by contacting our intake worker Judy Schutt at our off season phone number at ext. 233. Only residents of Ontario are eligible for the Camp Towhee program. Applicants will be asked to travel to Toronto at least once for an assessment meeting at the Integra office.
