DescriptionBack to top

A six-day summer day camp presented by Teatro ZinZanni in its antique Belgian spiegeltent for students ages 5 to 16, gives campers the chance to learn the basics of circus arts and clowning through workshops with some of the world's greatest cirque artists and stage technicians.

Swept up into the life of the circus, the campers will spend their days working individually and in teams. The days are spent learning new circus skills and campers will attend workshops on clowning, character development, costumes, make-up, sound and lighting taught by Teatro ZinZanni cast and staff members. The final lesson of each day combines the day's training, and builds on the previous day to arrive at a fully developed character and scene by the conclusion of the camp.

The week culminates in a free revue-style performace by the campers for family and friends under Teatro ZinZanni's antique red velvet spiegeltent.

  • AcroBalance + Clowning

    July 05 – July 10, 2010

    daily, 09:00 AM – 03:00 PM

AcroBalance + Clowning gives students ages 9-16 the chance to learn the basics of floor acrobatics and balance with clowning. Under the guidance of professional performers, the students will start with tumbling and then will explore rola bola, tight wire, unicycle, rolling globe, aerial arts, and more.

  • Clown Crash-Course

    July 12 – July 16, 2010

    daily, 09:00 AM – 03:00 PM

Clown Crash-Course, a five-day summer day camp for students ages 5 to 8, gives campers the chance to learn the basics of clowning with a focus on movement and a general overview of circus skills. Campers will be exposed to slapstick, balance, and circus-related crafts and will participate in a show-and-tell for family and friends on the last day of camp.

  • Mime & Mask + Clowning

    July 19 – July 24, 2010

    daily, 09:00 AM – 03:00 PM

Mime & Mask + Clowning gives students ages 9-16 the chance to learn the basics of circus acting: mask work heightens awareness of non-verbal communication and mime exaggerates expression of the body and face while clowning conveys humor. Under the guidance of professional performers, students will research the art of physical expression, gaining an appreciation of the power of communication without spoken language. They will also explore the art of physical comedy through slapstick.

  • Objects in Motion + Clowning

    July 26 – July 31, 2010

    daily, 09:00 AM – 03:00 PM

Objects in Motion + Clowning gives students ages 9-16 the chance to learn the basics of juggling, object manipulation and clowning. Under the guidance of professional performers, students will begin each morning with juggling sessions and then explore the manipulation of objects such as yoyos, rings, ribbons, spinning plates, diabolo, cigar boxes, spinning clubs, hats and possibly a few magic hand tricks.

  • Circus Performance

    August 02 – August 07, 2010

    daily, 09:00 AM – 03:00 PM

Prerequisite: Past participation in at least one Camp ZinZanni session for students 9-16 or approval from Camp Director. May include sessions attended in 2010.

Can you tell a story through juggling? What makes acrobatics even more interesting than the skill itself? In Circus Performance, students ages 9-16 with previous circus experience will get the opportunity to create a basic circus performance. Under the guidance of professional performers, students will focus on stage presence, story elements, and will present their show for friends and family on the last day of camp.
