CEDAR BRIDGE OFFERS 3 DISTINCT TRAINING PROGRAMS

BASIC CADET TRAINING - SUMMER ACADEMY 2009

Drill Sergeants, obstacle courses, extreme attention to detail, faith-based studies, and self-discipline.  These are just a few elements of the Cedar Bridge Military Academy.  During their first night at Cedar Bridge, few recruits would consider the experience fun, but at graduation, they come to understand that it was a worthwhile and necessary lesson in discipline and leadership.  The recruits are challenged to their limits and learn the meaning of hard work and success.

During their stay, each recruit develops into a smartly disciplined, physically fit, basically trained cadet, thoroughly indoctrinated in the love of Corps, Country, and God. Our instructors demand of every recruit, and demonstrate by their own examples, the highest standards of conduct, morality, and professional skill.

Do our instructors yell? YES! This is not your usual fun and games summer camp. It is fast paced, stressful, challenging, demanding, and tough. The mission of the Academy is to prepare young men and women to meet the challenges and demands of being a citizen in the United States as well as being more successful both in and out of school. The Academy teaches responsibility, self-discipline, leadership skills, citizenship, and strengthens character, while using a strict, disciplined, military training format.

Recruits wake to reveille at 0600 hours. The first activity every day is PT (physical training), then breakfast, followed by preparation of their living quarters, where they make beds tight enough to rebound a quarter. The cadets attend academic classes such as ‘morals, ethics, and leadership’ in the morning and practice precision drill and the manual of arms in the afternoon. They learn to fold laundry with laser-guided precision and spit-shine boots to look like mirrors. All the while, the eyes of a stern looking senior Drill Sergeant watches them, ensuring a commitment to excellence. Beyond this training, cadets have to adapt to a group living environment, while learning to put aside their personal needs to satisfy the needs of the team. We emphasize leadership ideals and teamwork throughout the training program, while building self-confidence and lasting friendships.

The Troop Handler (cadet drill sergeant) provides direct platoon supervision and training. These cadets are graduates of the Academy who attended the Troop Handler School.  Other cadets perform every job necessary for the camp to run, from administrative and counseling to security and food preparation.

As the training progresses, the numbers start to decrease. For some, the rigid discipline is more than they can manage, so they retreat for home. For others, the daily grind of physical activities proves too difficult. The ones that stay proudly march up to receive their diplomas at the graduation ceremony, attended by their family and friends. They join the cadets that have already graduated the Basic Cadet Training Course, and take their place as tomorrow's leaders, today.  (note: a child may only opt-out with parental permission)

To those individuals who graduate the Basic Cadet Training Course, the opportunity to return during following summer and/or session as cadre is extended.  Here, cadets continue to learn leadership skills and develop personally, while at the same time having the chance to mentor the new recruits.

Cedar Bridge Military Academy 5 out of 5 stars

I have been a member of CMA for three years. In the description it is said that this camp is hard, and it is, but by the time your camper graduates they have learned so much, and are very proud of all they have accomplished. I went through the first summer, and by the end of my two weeks there I didn't want to leave, I signed up to return the next year before returning home. The following summer I was teaching first year campers, and this past summer I became an adult staff member and helped teach not only first year campers, but return campers as well. Cedar Bridge Military Academy is one of the hardest experiences I've had in my life, but my involvement in CMA has made me the person I am today. The campers and staff of Cedar Bridge Military Academy are a very close group, and we all think of ourselves as a family. Being a member of the CMA family has been one of the greatest honors of my life, and I know that I can always turn to any of them. CMA is a great camp for any child looking to become more confident, respectful, physically fit, Cedar Bridge does it all. Campers return home from CMA with a different outlook on many different things, and then will never forget the things they learned at CMA, not to mention the CMA family they have joined the ranks of.

How CMA changed our lives 5 out of 5 stars

My grandson who I have raised since he was an infant has severe behavioral issues and I have prayed for a place to help him with his problem and found CMA-In a short time frame of 3 months, I could not believe the change in his behavior and the control he was showing in his life-I cannot say enough good about Sgt. Baryla and his staff who understanding his problem welcomed him and taught him strong Christian morals and respect for others-the weekends away and the weeknight developed into a camaraderie not only for him but for me as well-the staff are very concerned for the welfare and safety of every child in the program and work with the parent so that this respect and integrity carries over into their family life as well-I can't thank God enough for putting this program into our lives-it is a long awaited answer to my prayers
