An in-depth perspective on modern China through travel to Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, and Sichuan province. Students will learn about China across a diverse range of themes including the arts, business, entertainment, and the environment, and they will meet professional individuals shaping China in these areas. The four-week trip also provides the opportunity for students to build and use Mandarin Chinese language skills. Throughout the trip, China Prep organizes several structured language classes to teach practical skills for living and traveling in China.

This trip also includes a one-week Habitat for Humanity community service project in Sichuan province in a location affected by the earthquake.

China Prep Summer 2009 Two-Week Trip to Eastern China (August 3-August 17):

On our summer two-week trip, we will visit both the world-renowned sites and the back alleys of Shanghai, Beijing, and Hangzhou. Participants will learn about China across a diverse range of themes including the arts, business, entertainment, and the environment, and they will meet professional individuals shaping China in these areas. Through these interactions and several structured language classes, participants will have opportunities to develop Mandarin language skills.

Our two-week program is an excellent option for students wishing for a shorter trip or paired with our China Prep in NY program (June 28 - July 19).

China Prep Summer 2009 Two-Week Trip to Western China and Hong Kong (August 3-August 17):

Our two-week Western China and Hong Kong trip offers an incredible glimpse into the dramatically different sites and lifestyles in cosmopolitan Hong Kong and China’s scenic southwestern provinces.  Begin and end the trip in Hong Kong for an exploration of colonial history and China’s bustling international city.  Contrast this experience with Lijiang, Shangri-La, Chengdu, and Xian in western China, complete with breathtaking scenery, ethnic minority culture, terracotta warriors, Tibetan Buddhist temples, and the home of the famed Giant Panda reserve. Along the way experience China through a variety of lenses: artistic, economic, culinary, professional, environmental, historical, and linguistic.

The two-week Western China and Hong Kong trip offers a window into China you won’t find anywhere else.  This experience is a fascinating introduction to China on its own or can be combined with either our four-week China trip (June 29-July 27) or our China Prep in NY program (June 28-July 19).  Contact us for information about discounts for attending more than one program.
