Summer programs begin for children as young as 18 months old and continue throughout elementary, middle, and high school. Each session has a different theme. Students may attend one or multiple sessions.
Wee Farmers - Ages 18 months-2 yrs.
In these one-week sessions, our youngest campers experience nature, animals, and basic farming principles alongside parents or guardians.
Pea Pods - Ages 3-5
In these one-week sessions, students learn about the land and the many beautiful plants and animals that make up our local community. Basic lessons and crafts help students discover the wonder of our natural habitats, gardening, and how to feed and care for farm animals.
Growing Farmers - Entering Grades 1-5
In these one-week sessions, students explore the farm through grade appropriate math, science, reading, writing exercises, and arts and crafts. Experienced teachers guide the learning process through a dynamic hands-on approach.
Active Farmers - Entering Grades 6-8
Farm Biz - Learn to be an Entrepreneur, create and implement your own business plan, and help families in need. In this three-weeksession students will be introduced to small business planning, experience the farmers market at Billings Forge Community Works in Hartford, and learn how non-profit organizations can work together to create vibrant and healthy communities.
CFS Explorers - Explore farm habitats and search for endangered species, spend a night camping along the Farmington River, and learn organic gardening techniques. In this three-week session students will explore new cooking techniques as they prepare food picked fresh from the gardens. On Thursday, August 2 students will camp in the CFS fields along the Farmington River and experience the beautiful sights and sounds of a Connecticut summer night.
Montessori Experience - Ages 10-13
Montessori Farm Experience
In this three-week Erdkinder (Montessori) program, students learn on the farm; schooling consists of math, science, literature, social studies, and art courses, taught within the context of the farm. Dr. Maria Montessori called it the Pedagogy of Place, as students solve the challenges associated with caring for animals, tending crops, and meeting the community service goals of the farm.
Advanced Farmers - Entering Grades 9-10
Groundbreaking Techniques for a Better World
Create your own delicious recipes, grow in your organic garden, explore farm habitats and search for endangered species. In this three-weeksession students learn about their unique place in the environment, responsible stewardship of nature, and sustainable organic farming principles.
