Vacamas Day Camp The Vacamas Day Camp provides families with the security of knowing that their child is in a well-supervised, safe, caring and nurturing setting, while being introduced to new experiences, having fun, making new friends and developing new skills. The Vacamas Day Camp is a division of Vacamas Programs for Youth, a not-for-profit agency which has been providing camping experiences for over 85 years. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-serve basis. One- through nine-week sessions are available. Location Vacamas Day Camp is situated on 230 wooded acres of private land, surrounded by New Jersey's 4,500-acre Norvin Green State Forest, with a private 50-acre lake. Campers have the feeling of being in the wilderness but Camp is conveniently located on the border of Bloomingdale and West Milford, less than one mile from Hamburg Turnpike and Route 23. Bus tranportation will be provided at an additional charge from selected towns, depending upon camper registration. Participants The Vacamas Day Camp is available to children entering kindergarten through eighth grade. Campers are placed in small groups of six to ten children, based on their age and gender. Program Structure and Activities The Vacamas Day Camp strives to improve skills and self-confidence while keeping campers active and focused throughout the summer months. The regular day is 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. Extended day care is available for an additional charge beginning at 7 a.m. and ending at 6 p.m. The daily schedule is packed full of activities which encourage learning, development and physical activity. Campers can bring their own lunch or enjoy a lunch served by Camp at a minimal cost. Breakfast and dinner can be provided for an additional charge for those children utilizing the extended care options. Mid-afternoon snack is served to all campers before the end of the regular camp day. American Red Cross Swim Instruction is given three times per week in our lake-front swimming facilities. Campers also have an opportunity to take part in recreational swimming.
