Exploration Senior Program on the campus of Yale University: courses, activities, expeditions, pre-college enrichment and friendships that open your eyes to things new and different.

Located on the campus of Yale University, the Senior Program is the perfect place for you to get a taste of college life while you are still in high school. You’ll engage in innovative courses and activities as you learn about things that YOU want to learn about.

Students from more than 40 states and 40 countries come to Exploration each summer because they are interested in learning. At Exploration, our courses are ungraded and pressure-free, so you are encouraged to try academic fields and extracurricular activities that are new and interesting to you. This is the place to try crew for the first time, or to debate the morality of genetic stem cell research, or to learn how to stretch a West African drum, or to deliver the closing arguments in a murder trial. You will feel comfortable trying new things and expanding your horizons, because everyone here is trying new things and expanding their horizons.

You’ll be led by a faculty comprised of current and recent college students from some of the country’s top colleges and universities. Supported by a network of full-time, professional educators, our faculty members are your instructors in the classroom, your advisors in the dorm, and your coaches in extracurricular activities. You will see them everywhere and be inspired by their energy and enthusiasm. At Exploration, we see every moment in the day as a teaching moment, and our faculty is there to provide you with a solid foundation of support and encouragement.

Your day at the Senior Program is designed to let you make the most of your time at Exploration. In the mornings, you’ll take two academic courses, choosing from over 80 different subjects such as Modern Dance, Electrical Engineering, Sociology of Conformity, and Darkroom Photography. In the early afternoons you’ll have the option of taking two mini-courses or a Princeton Review SAT course. In the late afternoon and evening, you have even more flexibility with your day, as the Senior Program sponsors a variety of different athletics, activities, and special events from which you can pick and choose.

On weekends, you have the opportunity to choose from a number of trips into New York City and throughout New England. Paddle a kayak through the Thimble Islands. Go to a Broadway show. Hike the Sleeping Giant. Visit the Guggenheim. And more! In addition, the Senior Program offers extended weekend trips to Boston, Washington DC, and Philadelphia.

While there is no typical student that attends the Senior Program, there is one common strand that holds the Exploration community together: a love of learning. As a self-selected group, our student body has chosen to spend their summer at Exploration because they want to learn. This student enthusiasm, coupled with the Senior Program’s fun and exciting programming, creates the perfect environment for you to have a fantastic summer of Exploration.
