Our Summer Camp program started in 2001 with a single camp, and this year we are proud to offer 12 camps for you to choose from. We now have two types of camps, Flight Camps for youth ages 8-14 and Astronaut Academy for youth 13-17. Our camps are now seen as some of the best in the county, we already have campers from 10 different states, some youth are flying in from as far away as Hawaii! Lots of our campers do not have a huge interest in Aviation or Space Exploration, but attend our camps because they offer a “once-in-a-lifetime experience” that they can get an no other camp in the Midwest! Underneath all the fun they have flying in Cessnas, learning to SCUBA dive, building and launching rockets and meeting astronauts, campers hopefully gain an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. Each camp is unique and one is sure to fit your specific needs.  Remember as a member you receive a 25$ discount when registering your children or grandchildren! Summer Camps are a great gifts! Here are just four of our amazing camps! Day Flight Camp Ages 8-12 Monday through Friday $190 for Museum Members We will even pick your child up for camp! Parents: you can drop your child off at the designated Lincoln or Omaha locations and we will bring your child to camp with us. We pickup daily at Omaha Westside High School and Lincoln East High School at 7:20 am and drop off in the same locations at 5:15 pm. Ideal for working parents! Weekend Flight Camp Ages 9-13 Program fee is $225 for Members Clear the runway for takeoff as your aspiring pilot jets into a one-of-a-kind camp experience only the Strategic Air & Space Museum can offer! We know that nothing can get kids more excited about aviation than a flight in a real plane, so we have teamed up with the Local EAA Chapters in Lincoln and Omaha to be able to give the kids a chance to go up and fly in a Cessna airplane! Campers spend their days and nights in a one of a kind interactive learning environment that contains over 33 different aircraft and covers just over 6 football fields, at 330,000 sq. feet. Campers are taken on thrilling tours inside aircraft, restricted to the general public, and spend their nights sleeping in our C-119 cargo plane. Astronaut Academy Ages 13-16 $495 for Members Ever dream of being an astronaut? Let this amazing camp launch your dreams into orbit as you begin to train like the best at NASA. We begin our action filled camp with our version of “survival training” at the University of Nebraska Lincoln outdoor recreation facilities ropes course. This challenging course focuses camper’s attention on team building activities and problem solving techniques all while being suspended 45 feet in the air! That’s not the only activity that puts campers in the sky. A private tour of Nebraska’s largest observatory, Behlen observatory, provides an up-close look at very distant worlds. Our most exciting activity happens neither on land nor in the air but in the depths of the water while participants experience what it’s truly like to be an astronaut in space…being weightless. Campers experience the excitement of weightlessness in our Scuba diving activity in which campers learn the basics of Scuba and then accept underwater ‘missions’ to recover and repair ‘satellites and space shuttles.’ This awesome activity show campers what training is like at NASA’s Neutral Buoyancy Lab. During our weeklong camp, campers live at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus and have the chance to sleep one night in the C-119 Cargo plane at the Museum. This exciting camp is sure to keep campers eager and on the edge of their seats! Astronaut Academy JSC (Johnson Space Center) Ages 14-17 Program fee is $950 for Members Travel with us on an adventure to Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston, Texas! The excitement begins at the Museum with a day of Scuba Diving, performing underwater missions like the astronauts do. Then, we’ll fly to Houston and visit Space Center Houston for a behind the scenes tour of NASA’s JSC. We will be participating in the “Level Nine” tour of Johnson Space Center. Some of the exciting things to look forward to are the Neutral Buoyancy Lab, Space Environment Simulation Lab, Robotics Lab, Space Suit Display, Teague Auditorium, Historic Mission Control, New Mission Control, Space Vehicle Mock-up Facility and Building 3 where we will be eating lunch with the Astronauts! Spaces in this camp are extremely limited!
