High in the eastern Sierras of California, Mammoth Lakes has a very dark sky in the summertime. This is an ideal location to learn about astronomy by directly observing the cosmos. This workshop teaches hands on astronomy as a science, while the focus is on evaluating and increasing the level of learning of the student in mathematics in a non competitive environment. Mammoth Lakes offers some very fine steep walks with exceptional views, and guided afternoon hiking trips are included. In our summer location on the Lincoln Ridge of Mammoth Mountain, we have many hikes available starting right at our door, although Mammoth also offers suburban amenities without the traffic. 

We begin early every morning by exercising outdoors in the high altitude air, a nice walk or run. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks are available to suit every need and appetite, while we encourage and offer wholesome and natural foods. 

Our Astronomy sessions are designed to introduce the student to the Cosmos we live in, our understanding often through mathematics and is meant to prepare the student for the night observation sessions. (Please bring warm clothes for these sessions; the days are warm but the nights can be quite cool.) Our Math sessions begin with an evaluation of the students progress. They play a part in moving another step forward and/or reviewing their strengths and weaknesses. As math and science professionals, we encourage challenge but also thoroughness in the basics.

Our Workshop concentrates on mathematics for remedial through gifted students and this is achieved by working with small groups. Our goals are to help achieve the next level of learning for the student while increasing self confidence in math. Workshop classes are taught by on-sabbatical professionals in math, physics and engineering.
