Beginning to Groove: Learning how to drum for the first time.

The Beginning to Groove class is for the very beginning, younger student who has little or no experience with music.  Groove School uses instruments of different sounds, color, and shapes for each child to hold and play.  The students will learn basic rhythms and develop their motor skills, and communication skills.  The idea of this course is to excite, inspire, and most of all have a whole lot of fun with sounds of percussion in a very none intimidating environment.  No musical experience is needed to join this class.  The course is open to children ages 4 to 8 and runs once a week for 50 minutes.

Beginning Percussion:

Beginning Percussion is setup for the beginning student who has some musical experience either with percussion, or any other musical instrument or a student who is excited about learning to drum.  Each student will learn how to hold drum sticks, understand how to let the drum stick bounce off the drum pad and work on beginning rhythms to better their understanding of percussion.  Students not only will learn how to drum, but will also learn how to read and understand music.  Groove school will also introduce to the class how to play the bells to expose students to Mallet percussion with the joy of playing songs. This course is open to students 9 to 15 and will run once a week for 50 minutes.

Beginning Percussion 100A:

This course is for the beginning percussion student who has either successfully completed the Beginning Percussion course at Groove School of Percussion, or is in their Jr. High, or High School band program, or who has at least one year of percussion experience under their belt and would like to continue working on enhancing their percussion skills.  We will continue to work with the Drum Pads and Bells.  The idea is to increase the Students music vocabulary and continue working on their drumming, and bell playing skills.  This class is open to students age 9 – 15 and will run once a week for 50 minutes.

Beginning and Intermediate Rudimental Drumming:

The Rudimental Drumming class at Groove School focuses on hand, foot, and rhythmic coordination while drumming on Marching Percussion Instruments. The instruments we will explore are the Marching Snare Drum, Tenor Drums, and Marching Bass Drums. These are traditional instruments marching bands use on the football field today.  We will introduce basic to intermediate rhythms, and hand to hand stick coordination to provide a foundation of rudimental drumming.  This course is open to students age 11 to 17.  The Beginning Rudimental course will run twice a week for 50 minutes.  The Intermediate Rudimental class will run twice a week for two hours.
