HI-STEP (formerly Stepping Stone) Summer Social Skills Program: Helping Improve Social-skills Through Evidence-based Practices (ages 6-16) is a 6-week Summer Program (not a sleep-over program) that takes place Monday through Friday (June 25 - August 3, 2012; no program on July 4th); Teaches social-emotional and problem-solving skills; individualized attention; structured sports and recreational activities; arts and crafts; positive peer interactions; highly structured; ongoing supervision; small-group format; and reinforcement system. Parents receive feedback and strategies for home carryover; The program may be appropriate for children with social-emotional difficulties, attention problems, high-functioning Pervasive Developmental Disorders (e.g., Aspergers Syndrome, High Functioning Autism, PDD-NOS), and learning disabilities. Many children who receive special education services have attended this program as part of their I.E.P.s extended school-year (ESY) program; a diagnosis or classification is not necessary for enrollment in the program.
