The Talented Youth Summer Program at HKUST aims to provide special nurturing to talented pre-university youths by helping them to:

  • Explore and develop their full potential;
  • Achieve personal goals while maintaining harmony with others; and
  • Become global citizens by realizing that the contribution of the whole can be greater than the sum of its parts.

Ultimately, we want to inspire these extraordinary youngsters and broaden their horizons so that they can truly flourish.

Residential Program 15 July - 5 August 2008

TYS@UST is an intensive and challenging program for top-ranking students will have completed Grades 10 to 12 (or equivalent). It combines academic learning, reflective thinking, cultural exchange, and community exploration into a three-week adventure. The theme of our 2009 program is 'Accelerated Societal Development through Science and Technology'. Students will examine the roles of science and technology in societal development throughout the history of civilization, discuss the implications of past trends, and explore their potential contribution in future developments.

The academic component of the program consists of two courses, one mandatory and one elective. Throughout their coursework, students will receive instructions from the University¡'s distinguished faculty and other academic experts, and engage in an interactive mode of learning that is characteristic of undergraduate studies. Not only will they get a foretaste of university life, they will also have a chance to flex their intellectual muscles and extend themselves academically. Holistic learning can only take place beyond the confines of the classroom.

Therefore, besides classroom lectures, lab sessions, and course assignments, students will also have the opportunity to participate in a variety of extramural activities, such as city exploration tours and educational visits.
