Kippewa for Girls
Kippewa is located on the shores of Lake Cobboseecontee. Picturesque in beauty, this 10-mile long lake is bordered by five towns and features 44 islands. Extensive shoreline and acreage provide privacy and plenty of room to run our many in-depth programs.
Kippewa is the "right size" -- large enough to have plenty of girls in every age group and to support a lavish activities program where campers choose their own activity schedule and small enough so that everyone in camp gets to know everyone else -- fostering a wonderful camp community.
The instructional focus at Kippewa is individualized which enables each girl to learn at her own pace and achieve personal success while developing skills in her self-chosen activities. Furthermore, Kippewa's program staff and professional lead instructors have the skill and experience to advance the most sophisticated student in every activity.
Small groupings in cabins and activities provide a family atmosphere of warmth and caring. In this setting our nurturing counselors are attentive to each camper's needs and personality which enables each camper to feel nurtured and successful. With at least one counselor for every three girls, and a senior staff member for every four counselors, supervision and guidance are abundant.
Five decades of expanding opportunities have created a number of specialty programs at Kippewa For Girls: There are major programs in studio and performing arts, horseback riding, water sports, gymnastics, tennis, field sports, and wilderness camping & canoe trips.
The Kippewa advantage is that each camper chooses her own activities and has her own activity schedule. Each camper chooses specific activities from the vast offerings of these seven specialty program groupings. Most activities run daily for a five-day block providing campers with instructional continuity and the flexibility to try new activities and broaden skills in favorites every five days. Additionally two daily free-choice periods provide the opportunity to "just go" or to experience daily specials.
Our overall program design emphasis is on the activities that may not be readily available at home due to geographics or family time constraints. Many activities we offer are special summer experiences that rely on Kippewa's many specialized buildings, facilities, lakeside setting, or our geographic location in beautiful Central Maine where we are close to both the seashore and the mountains.
About one in every four of campers take advantage of Kippewa's 25 acre Equestrian Riding Center Program which offers English horseback riding for the beginner to experienced riding student. Our equestrian riding center features: two very large riding rings with sand bases, acres of pasture and fields, a half-mile grass oval track, and a turn-of-the century barn originally built to stable 29 trotting horses for the Woolworth Family. Jumping is taught in the rings. For experienced riders jumping is also taught in the field inside of the half-mile oval riding track.
All cabins have their own bathroom with private showers. Cabins are also equipped with electricity, windows and screens. Every cabin is staffed by 2 -3 live-in counselors who serve as cabin counselors and program staff.
Kippewa chaperones buses from the New York and Boston, Massachusetts, metropolitan areas and meets flights from all over the world.
