The Loggerhead Marinelife Center is offering a new and improved Summer Camp curriculum for the summer of 2011! Our programs are interactive, educational and stimulating. Each camp has two age groups (7-10 and 11-14, witht the exception of Field Experiences, which is exclusively for 15-17 yr olds) Turtle Adventures: Does your child have a passion for sea turtles? Then this is the camp for them! In five days, campers will learn about the different species of sea turtles that call Florida their home. They will be educated on turtle nesting, habitats, ecology, conservation, rehab and what they can do on a day-to-day basis to help protect sea turtles. Campers will participate in indoor as well as outdoor activities including, but not limited to: scavenger hunts, educational games, crafts, nature walks, specialist presentations and demonstrations. Explore Florida: Got a junior naturalist in your house? This program will encompass a variety of Floridas wonders. Campers will take nature hikes, learning about native flora and fauna. They will gain skills of observation in the fields of botany, zoology, and ecology, with emphasis on conservation. Campers will visit several different ecosystems and learn not only who inhabits them but how they fit into the bigger picture. Activities will include but are not limited to: nature hikes, bird watching, marine biology lab, specialist presentations and more! If your child loves to be outdoors and learn about nature, this is the camp for them! Field Experience - 15-17 years: This is not your traditional camp experience! Campers will spend five days learning about designing and conducting experiments from beginning to end, sea turtle research, and learning about teamwork and public speaking. They will learn different field techniques for gathering data and use these to form their own observational experiments. Activities will include but are not limited to: marine biology lab, botany lab, observing wildlife and gathering data and forming hypotheses based on these data.
