Makemie Woods changes lives by providing a high-quality, FUN! and safe Christian summer camp for children and youth. Established in 1964, Makemie Woods offers a chance for campers to try new things, learn new skills,  make new friends, enjoy and appreciate nature, and most importantly develop and nurture their faith in Jesus Christ.

Additionally, Makemie Woods is home to Camp Jordan for children with diabetes. Diabetes education and 24-7 medical care by doctors and nurses are added to the traditional camp program.  Spiritual and religious programming is offered but not required in the Camp Jordan sessions.

What we do best: Makemie Woods teaches essential life skills in a radically-accepting Christian community.

What is a radically-accepting Christian community?  It is one in which everyone strives to look at each other through the eyes of Christ.  Makemie Woods teaches that every camper is valuable and part of the family.  The staff strive to create an environment that is positive and encourage campers to be "complaint-free."*  It means not whining about what we cannot influence, yet always seeking constructive solutions.  Can you imagine your camper not complaining?  We can!

Makemie Woods offers traditional overnight camping with campfires and s’mores, swimming, crafts, archery, games, boating, Bible Study.  Makemie Woods also offers a variety of focus camps, such as Drama, Photography, Night Owls and off-site adventures including caving, climbing, and rafting.  Older campers enjoy the camps on-site zip-line course!

Our staff is made up Christ-loving, fun individuals, recruited from the US and from all over the world.  Counselors are at least 18 years old and in most cases have finished at least one year of college.  Every staff member is certified in first aid and CPR at a minimum, and many possess additional lifeguard and wilderness certifications.  Our counselor ratios range from one counselor to four campers in a group (for our youngest campers) and one counselor to seven campers for some older groups.  Our overall staff to camper ratio is 1:3 – few camps offer this level of supervision and attention to campers.

Generous donors have made scholarships available for those who need financial assistance.  Please contact Makemie Woods directly for more information.
