Mastering Skills and Mountains is a combination of natural history, ecology and field research focusing on the Cumberland Plateau and the Southern Appalachians.  This program is all about learning through real-life experience in the natural world.  Students will read and write about their surroundings as well as study the history that makes this region - the Cumberland Plateau - unique.  Indeed, it is our in-depth exploration of the natural world that sets Mastering Skills and Mountains apart from other wilderness adventure courses.

You will learn to identify plants and animals through guided activities.  You will hike and camp on the Appalachian Trail and other wilderness areas.  You will learn rock climbing and caving from skilled instructors - with one experienced counselor for every four students, Mastering Skills and Mountains assures your safety and guarantees your fun.  You will also master backcountry living skills such as map reading, cooking and gear selection (all camping and trail equipment except shoes provided by the program).  You will also go whitewater rafting on the Ocoee and Nantahala Rivers.  The cost of a three week session is $1900.  Session I begins on June 7,  2006 and ends on June 25.  Session II begins on July 5, 2006 and ends on July 23.
