MexArt:  a one-month Art or Dance and Spanish summer program in San Miguel, México. The first art session is for students finishing the 10th through 12th grades, the second art session for students finishing the 8th through 10th grades, and the dance session for students finishing 8th – 11th grade. MexArt is a private organization that was inspired when Caren and David Cross moved to San Miguel, an international haven for artists. Our family got together several times a year in their new home in México. We found the community to be warm and inclusive to outsiders. Most importantly MexArt grew out of the abundance of artists in the community, the inspirational beauty of the area, and the cultural impact of living in a foreign society.  The MexArt program allows participants to experience all of this through studying art and Spanish while living in this colonial Mexican town.

MexArt excels in teaching the visual arts, dance, and Spanish.  Participants choose an art area or dance on which to focus and may choose other areas with which to experiment. Student talent varies in ability from having an interest  to having had years of practice. All levels are welcome. Spanish is also an integral part of the program and is geared to each individual’s speaking ability. Our professional artists and Spanish faculty are enthusiastic, talented teachers.

Participants live in an inn with experienced counseling staff. The inn is private and safe with two to three students to a room. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are taken at a variety of local restaurants on a rotating schedule.  Students are required to attend all meals.

While MexArt trusts its students, and participants are encouraged to interact and integrate into the San Miguel community, participants are supervised by staff and attendance at all MexArt classes and functions is required.

The MexArt tuition covers all program costs. An additional cash account of $200 allows students to have internet access, participate in aerobics or yoga classes, buy snacks or souvenirs and engage in optional travel. Any unused portion is refunded at the conclusion of MexArt. The cost of transportation to México is not included, and optional travel or health insurance is available to participants to augment family health plans
