Champions of the Earth

June 22 – 26

Young Explorers: 9 am – 3 pm

Tiny Trackers: 9 – 11:30 am or 12:30 – 3 pm

Be a part of saving the planet! There are many simple ways we can help the earth including making recycled paper; using worms to compost our leftover lunch; making our own paper, ink, and toothpaste; and creating bird feeders, homes for toads, and shelters for animals. Campers will learn what happens to all their trash and how to creatively recycle. They’ll become a habitat steward while pulling and planting at our restoration site!

Dig It!

July 6 – 10

Young Explorers: 9 am – 3 pm

Tiny Trackers: 9 – 11:30 am or 12:30 – 3 pm

Does your lunch or some of your clothes come from dirt? Absolutely! Campers will get down and dirty as they discover why soil is important for everything we do. They’ll make “dirt soup,” paint with dirt, investigate what lives and grows in the soil, how to save soil, and how to nurture and make new, better soil.

Growing Greener

July 13 – 17

Young Explorers: 9 am – 3 pm

Tiny Trackers: 9 – 11:30 am or 12:30 – 3 pm

Green is the key to all life on earth. One way or another all creatures rely on plants to survive. Campers will become plant explorers as they create plant art and participate in plant hunts, plant collecting, and plant dissecting. Kids can claim a little piece of the Arboretum as their own as they get their hands dirty with planting, harvesting, watering, and growing food plants, bug plants, and beautiful plants in Tyler’s Children’s Garden.

What’s Bugging You?

July 20 – 24

Young Explorers: 9 am – 3 pm

Tiny Trackers: 9 – 11:30 am or 12:30 – 3 pm

Campers will search the Arboretum for good bugs, bad bugs, and ugly bugs that are creeping, crawling, hunting, hiding, and flying around the property. They’ll dig under a fallen tree to discover what decomposes our logs, net a butterfly to examine what pollinates the flowers, and search the stream for aquatic insects that live under rocks.

Water Wonders

July 27 – 31

Young Explorers: 9 am – 3 pm

Tiny Trackers: 9 – 11:30 am or 12:30 – 3 pm

While exploring our streams and pond, campers will discover how many critters live in – or depend on – water habitats for survival. They’ll get their feet wet, search the streams for crayfish, look for turtles and frogs in the pond, and investigate the importance of water in our lives and to the animals and plants that call Tyler home.

Art of Survival

August 3 – 7

Young Explorers: 9 am – 3 pm

Tiny Trackers: 9 – 11:30 am or 12:30 – 3 pm

What do a turtle and a walnut have in common? They both have shells for survival! Kids will learn how other plants and animals survive through camouflage, defense, flight, or attack. They’ll discover how Native Americans and early settlers survived on the land. Campers will become a survivor as they learn what to pack for a day hike and what plants are helpful for survival.

Art in Nature

August 10 – 14

Young Explorers (ages 7 – 11): 9 am – 3 pm

Campers will discover the many faces of Mother Nature as they let their creativity loose through painting and drawing, working with clay, crafting with natural materials, and photography. While looking at plants, insects, and animals with an artistic eye, they will discover amazing facts about how our world grows and functions.
