Oakmont's Summer Investigations is a new summer program for kids ages 4-18. Camps are 1-week, 1/2 day programs on a variety of topics/themes.

Delve into art and creative movement or discover how animals communicate. Come and learn about building, either monuments or computers. There is something for everyone at Oakmont's

Our student: teacher ratio is 6:1, so most camps will consist of only 6 students. Therefore, please register as soon as possible to ensure a spot in the camp of your choice.

Art Exploration
There are no limits when it comes to imagination! Delve into art with our resident art teacher, John Mulvany.
Ages 8-11, $110/wk

Let's Talk Turkey
Learn about the many ways animals communicate. We will explore animal "talk" through drama, art, creative movement and literature.

Imagination on the Move
Spend the morning exploring your creative side!
* 9 - 10: Explore your world through movement. Diane Hand has taught creative movement for 16 years, and is bringing her talents to Oakmont to inspire the imagination of our campers.
* 10 - 12: Get a different perspective on the elements learned through movement as you delve into art with our resident art teacher, John Mulvany.

The Rainforest
Explore the rainforest through interaction with literature. The week's readings and activities will focus on wildlife, interdependence, and environmental issues. Activities will integrate science, geography, and art.

Computers: From the Inside Out
This session will help students learn:
* about the various components of a computer;
* how to take apart and build a computer;
* how to utilize available resources to fix and upgrade computers;
and
* how to install and configure an operating system.

This camp is designed to help students gain confidence in working with computers, and will include one field trip to the Goodwill Computer Store on 183 and Burnet Rd.
*Requirements: students must have a strong interest in computers, and be able to work independently.

* Discover the mysteries of the pyramids.
* Find out how and why they were built.
* Write like an Egyptian using hieroglyphs.
* Discover what everyday life was like as an Egyptian princess or a commoner.

Poetry in Motion
Explore poetry through language and movement, focusing on rhyme and concrete poems.

Come learn about cool pieces of architecture from around the world, and how different things are built. Then, try your hand at constructing amazing things with legos, clay, tiny bricks and mortar, plankos, toothpicks, and more! There's a little architect in all of us!

Writing Workshop
Learn a variety of writing strategies for use in creative and formal writing, with focus on the writing process (prewriting, writing, revising, editing, and publishing). Explore mulltiple formats (informative, how-to, descriptive/expositive, and persuasive) through group and independent writing projects. Students will leave this camp with a basic writing portfolio.

Investigate language and form of poetry. We will review rhyme, metaphor, structure, and various formats of poems, with each student publishing a book of poetry by the end of the week.

Explore favorite children's books through art, drama, and writing.

Folklore, Myths & Legends
Examine a variety of works from different cultures, paying careful attention to their similarities in theme and structure. Native American, African, and other folktales and legends will introduce students to a range of ways different cultures describe their worlds.
