DescriptionBack to top

Set on the beautiful University of Oregon campus, the Oregon Debate Institute (ODI) runs the first two weeks of August. ODI offers instruction in LD, CX and Parliamentary Debate (aka Public, Ted Turner), and this year will also offer a concurrent Individual Events program. ODI distinguishes itself from other Speech and Debate summer programs in its commitment to both practice rounds and good times. With respect to the first point, ODI has several camp tournaments throughout the two weeks. The first weekend there is a whole camp parli tournament with people randomly paired and a goal of developing responsive critical thinking and creativity. The second weekend we have tourneys for each of the three debate categories and an optional impromptu/extemp tourney for those interested. As for good times, the Oregon Debate Institute does its best to maximize socialization and recreation. Every evening we will have a movie (or two) playing on our big screen projectors. In addition, we can set up multiplayer halo (or football) tournaments using the big screens, if someone is kind enough to bring their Xbox. We also have an afternoon trip to a local swimming hole planned for sometime during the second week. The goal of the University of Oregon Debate Institute is to not only help you improve your speech and debate skills, but to have fun at the same time.
