PEAKS Camp
Summer Address:

The PEAKS Adventure is based on the belief that through structured experiential learning and positive interaction, youth and adult participants will have the opportunity to enhance their feelings of self worth, increase their relationship skills and discover their strengths and limitations. This, in turn will enable them to function more successfully in their daily lives. Trained professionals with expertise in experiential learning, group therapy and outdoor education facilitate the PEAKS Adventure.
PEAKS camps are designed for at-risk youth and their adult sponsors. One or two youth attend together with an adult sponsor. All adult sponsors are staff with experience in youth services; they are expected to know something about the youth they bring, and preferably to have a prior relationship. Youth participants range in age from 10 to 18.
A unique feature of PEAKS is the training/learning experience (CEUs offered) for the adult participants (counselors or parents), as well as a learning experience for youth. All participants will walk away with new ideas, activities and processing skills.
This highly structured program involves day and evening activities linked with group processing. Typical activities include: Ropes Challenge Course, Swimming and Water Activities, Initiatives, New Games, Creative Arts and Dramatics, Nature Hikes, Canoeing, and Archery. All youth and adults participate in every aspect of this intensive program together.
The activities program is planned with input from the PEAKS Committee, which includes a wide range of youth service professionals with known expertise in youth services as well as in their specific programmatic areas. Committee members serve as facilitators at PEAKS camps.
Safety policies are in place for activities, and are reviewed with staff and volunteers each year. Criminal Records Checks are performed every year for all staff working in a paid or volunteer capacity at any PEAKS camp.
PEAKS Camps take place at the HEB Foundation Camp located near Leakey, Texas in mid June. Nestled along the Frio River in the peaceful hill country, the property is surrounded by continuously flowing springs, eight waterfront areas with cool, crystal-clear water and breathtaking rugged rock formations.
