Offering unique nature programs for children ages 4 to 11, the Audubon Naturalist Society’s summer camps offer exciting outdoor adventures, while fostering environmental awareness. We seek to nurture a lifetime of outdoor discovery by providing enriching outdoor experiences led by experienced and qualified naturalists and educators.

Creature Feature: PreK-K
6/20- 6/24 9:00am – noon
Meet a live animal every day in this exciting camp! We will investigate the differences between wild animals and pets, including their different adaptations. Before we meet our live guest, we will practice safe handling and how to respect our new acquaintances. We’ll finish every day seeing and touching the animal we have learned so much about!
Animal Safari: 1st-2nd grade

Put on your explorer hat, grab a pair of binoculars (or a magnifying glass) and prepare for adventure! We will go on the hunt...exploring the habitats in Broadlands. We will seek our treasures and trophies at the pond, the forest and the meadow and have fun tracking big, and little animals

See the forest through storybook eyes. We will visit the forest, pond and meadow to experience the “real life” world introduced in such stories as "The Mitten", and "The Lorax". Let your imagination soar as we read stories, then create our own versions in the natural world around us.
Nature By Design: 1st-2nd grade
6/27-7/01 9:00am - noon
Have you ever been inspired by a rainbow, snail shell, or leaf? Experience the beauty of the natural world in this camp. We will discover how nature uses symmetry, texture, and color. Using observation and tools such as magnifying glasses and binoculars, we’ll uncover art in nature. We will also study artwork by natural and earth artists to help inspire our own creations!
Spirit of the Earth: 5th-6th grade

Delve into the world of the Native Americans in this adventure camp. We’ll learn about the history of the native tribes of the area and investigate their food sources, shelters, and traditional culture.
Themes include tracking, shelter building, making natural dyes, crafts, and more. Thursday night we’ll cook our own food, practice our Native American lore, and take in the night sky as we sleep out under the stars! Cost includes campout dinner, and Friday breakfast and lunch.
Fantastic Flyers: PreK-K
7/11-7/15 9:00am - noon
Take flight in this exciting camp! We will learn all about different animal flyers including big brown bats, bluebirds, dragonflies, and a few famous gliders, like flying squirrels. Then we’ll head outside to look for these talented creatures and their homes.
Reptile Mania: 1st-2nd grade

Scaly and surprising; snakes, turtles and lizards are fascinating creatures with some wild adaptations. Non-poisonous snakes eat poisonous snakes, and a turtle’s favorite food may surprise you! Learn about these and more as we creep into the exciting world of some of reptiles, amphibians and other cold-blooded critters.
Talons and Teeth: 1st-2nd grade

Foxes, wolves, hawks, and snakes are fantastic predators; but frogs, dragonflies, swallows, and ladybugs can be just as fierce. In this camp we will look for large and small predators and learn about how they find their prey. Campers will learn why predators are an important part of our food chain, and what makes each one unique.
Where the Wild Things Roam: PreK-K

Let out your inner wild thing in this camp! We will discover what is lurking in the woods, underground, and in the pond at the Rust Nature Sanctuary. Fierce predators, gentle giants, and many others will be investigated as we explore the wild things around us
Super Sleuths: 3rd-4th grade

Join the ranks of forensic investigators in this exciting camp. We will learn about the science of evidence collecting and interpretation as we follow clues to solve natural and human mysteries. We will learn about animal tracks and signs, fingerprints, and trace evidence. Our skills will be tested out in the field and in our camper designed crime lab.
Dirt, Worms and other Icky's: PreK-K

Let’s dig deep, get dirty, and see what kinds of fun and funky critters are living at Rust. Exploration of worms, slugs and snakes are just the beginning as we discover what’s really lurking in the soil beneath our feet.
Summer Survival: 1st-2nd grade

It’s hot, it’s humid, and the rain is scarce, but the deer are still wearing their fur coats! How do animals survive in this weather? Where do they get their water as the creeks dry up? Animal investigation and games collide with hot weather as we experience this sizzling camp.
Advanced Wilderness Skills: 7th-9th grade

In this camp we will take our wilderness skills to the next level. We will learn about edible and medicinal plants, tents and shelters, campfire cooking, and backpack basics. Monday and Tuesday we will spend learning basic wilderness skills and do some team building activities. Wednesday through Friday we will test those skills with a campout at Rust. During our campout we will hike, camp and practice what we have learned. Novice and veteran campers welcome. Cost includes 2 campout dinners, 2 lunches, 2 breakfasts and snacks during our campout.
Dino-Soar: 1st-2nd grade

Help turn the forests of Rust into a prehistoric jungle. We will explore this jungle to discover dinosaurs, what they ate, and how they survived. We will also learn about prehistoric plants and other beasts as we uncover the world’s earliest life forms. Join as we bring dinosaurs back to life for this week of camp!
Mythical Creatures: 3rd-4th grade
8/15-8/19 9:00am-3:00pm
Reality and fiction collide in this popular camp! Each day we will examine a famous mythical creature, such as the Phoenix or Dragon, and then we will investigate the real animal on which the creature was based. Tales and stories, creative art projects, and outdoor explorations will complement our adventure into nature’s mythical world.
