DescriptionBack to top

The Seminar for top Engineering Prospects (STEP) program is a weeklong experience for outstanding high school students that have recently completed their junior year and have expressed the desire to learn more about engineering as a possible career choice. Students are introduced to the engineering discipline and to college life through a series of tours, demonstrations, classroom experiences, and a hands-on project. The essence of the program is to help participants understand what an engineer is by experiencing engineering: designing, modeling, building, and testing. In addition, since the computer is a fundamental tool used by todays engineer, students will have the opportunity to solve elementary engineering problems using software packages like Excel. Other sessions during the weeklong experience included: labs tours and demonstrations from the various schools within the College of Engineering, plant trips to local industry, and Atoms in Action (a chemistry shown designed to peak a students interest into the marvels of chemistry).
