DescriptionBack to top

A sonic adventure for children aged 7-10 that will stimulate the imagination and encourage creativity.
Through fun interactive activities, participants will develop critical listening skills as they explore innovative ways to hear and use sounds.
As every child has the ability to create sounds, they can all make music! While children will acquire skills that are beneficial to musical study, no music background or knowledge is necessary to participate in Sound Mania. In the spirit of creative play, they will develop communication skills and gain confidence in creating their own music and sound art.
Each camp session will open a door to new discoveries in using and listening to sounds in a fun and supportive environment.
Some of the activities at Sound Mania:
* build a sound sculpture
* play with a balloon orchestra
* paint a picture with sounds
* make your own musical instruments
* participate in non-competitive games
* bring a story to life with sounds
* move to the sounds of different cultures
*find hidden sounds on a treasure hunt
...........and much more!
About the Sound Mania programme:
Many of the activities and concepts of Sound Mania are based on the teachings of celebrated Canadian composer, music educator, writer, and environmentalist Murray Schafer. As the pioneer of acoustic ecology and founder of the World Soundscape Project, Schafer's theories on music education are renowned worldwide.
The instructor for Sound Mania is Tilly Kooyman, (M.Mus, ARCT) a professional musician and educator, who has collaborated with Schafer on various projects for over twenty years. Tilly has also studied 'Deep Listening' with Pauline Oliveros, who has developed a practice that distinguishes the difference between the involuntary nature of hearing and the voluntary selective nature of listening.
