Starwood Performing Arts Camp
Summer Address:

The unique Starwood Performing Arts Camp Program is one of the few that offers both formal classroom training and production experience for young people. At Starwood, career-minded individuals can prepare for the rigors of a professional career, yet students not aiming for a professional career benefit from the program with its emphasis on discipline, self-worth and the development of communication skills.
Program Director, Michael Blevins, most widely know for his portrayal of 'Mark' in the film A CHORUS LINE brings a wealth of practical experience in addition to his many years as a Master Teacher and noted Musical Theatre educator to the Starwood experience. Blevins has designed and created the 3-week Summer Intensive Repertory Training Program to meet the needs of beginning, intermediate and advanced performers interested in working in the professional theatre.
This hands-on program utilizes both the classroom and the "Production Process" to train young people in the musical theatre arts. The program includes the production of 2 full-scale shows: 1 musical, plus, a non-musical play will be rehearsed and presented for the general public at the Johnson City Community Theatre site. The 3-week Starwood Summer Intensive features 18 hours of Formal Classroom training in Acting, Tap Dance, Singing and Theatre Dance coupled with over 110 hrs. of rehearsal and production experience for a total of 128 hours of professional theatre training.
The Starwood Performing Arts Camp offers a comprehensive program that develops the artists with the capacity to cause or bring into being the utmost and truly paramount theatre experience. Blevins feels experience is the best teacher and has designed the program to provide challenging opportunities not only in the performing arts but life skills as well.
