Summer Discovery in Spain offers students the opportunity to explore Valencia, Madrid, Barcelona and to participate in a wide array of academic course and activities.  Summer Discovery students and staff live in the Colegio Mayor Galileo Galilei, on the campus Universidad Politecnica de Valencia (UPV), the largest and most modern university residence in Spain. The residence is close to both the historic city center and the beaches of the Mediterranean Sea. Students are surrounded by Spanish-speaking students, and a friendly bilingual staff. Each air-conditioned, double room features private bathrooms (with showers), wireless internet and a telephone. The residence also features a music room, full service bank, mini-mart, computer lab, two dining halls, a 24-hour, hotel style reception area and is next to state-of-the-art sports facilities. Our home in Madrid is the contemporary, first-class NH Alberto Aguilera located near the Plaza de Espana. In Barcelona it’s the HCC Hotel Open, perfectly located in Eixample, close to the University District and the Plaza Catalonia. Both hotels features air-conditioned rooms with private bathrooms, satellite TV and wireless internet. 

Summer Discovery students may choose from 2 curricula. Curriculum A offers an Intensive Spanish Language course for optional college credit and a Spanish Cultural Immersion enrichment course. Curriculum B offers Intensive Spanish Language course for optional college credit plus a Princeton Review SAT Preparation course. Spanish Language courses meet 5 mornings a week for approximately 3 hours. Spanish Cultural Immersion classes meet 3 afternoons a week for approximately 11/2 hours. The Princeton Review Beat the SAT preparation class meets 3 afternoons per week for approximately 21/2 hours.

These classes are taught by the renowned teachers of the Enforex Spanish Language Institute each weekday morning. Enforex, under the academic direction of Dr. Maria Jose Gelabert, has 17 language institutes throughout Spain and Latin America. Enforex classrooms are a 10-minute walk from our residences in Valencia, Madrid and Barcelona.Enforex has more than 15 years of teaching Spanish to foreign students and has provided Spanish language programs in Spain for many prestigious American universities including UC Berkeley and the University of North Carolina. All Enforex schools use the same syllabus and teaching methods allowing students to seamlessly combine their Spanish language learning experience in Valencia, Madrid & Barcelona. Spanish Language courses are taught at 6 different levels. Students are tested the first day to determine which level class they enter.

Students will have the chance to immerse themselves in the Spanish culture while participating in activities and excursions including trips to La Rambla, Sagrada Familia, Boqueria Market, Plaza del Sol, Plaza Catalonia, Beach days in Valencia, and much more.
