The San Jacinto College Aerospace & Biotechnology Academy proudly announces that it is accepting applications for the 2008 Summer Space Sciences Exploration Program to be offered from July 28 to July 31 2008.  This program will give 20 rising high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to spend four days at Space Center Houston and Johnson Space Center learning about what is like to work in the aerospace industry.  The overall goal of this project, which is funded by a grant from the Texas Workforce Commission, is to use the technologically rich and exciting resources represented by the aerospace industry at NASA’s Johnson Space Center to inspire students to become interested in high technology and aerospace fields and to provide them with the necessary foundational skills and knowledge for success in those careers. Students will be able to participate in activities and workshops dealing with robotics, rocketry, astromaterials, aerospace careers, and geographic information systems (GIS), on-site NASA tours (including a tour of the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory), and job shadowing activities. Those students interested in becoming part of this fascinating experience are required to complete an application plus submit a parent consent form and a reference letter from a teacher or school administrator. The reference letter must state why the applicant should be selected for this program.  All students must send the program application by fax.  Signed reference letters must be faxed by the STEM teacher or administrator and are subject to verification.  Incomplete forms or documents sent after the deadline will not be considered.  All required documentation must be faxed by 5/31/2008.  The candidates will be selected according to their level of involvement and interest in pursuing a career in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics field.  Selected candidates will be notified by email by the end of June 2008. For further information contact Joel Soto. Joel.Soto.  THIS WORKSHOP IS FREE FOR SELECTED PARTICIPANTS.
