At Swallowtail School, we have integrated elements of Waldorf Education into summer camp, meeting the children at their developmental stage, teaching them artistically and experientially, and utilizing daily rhythms.

We are offering two full months of weekly sessions, each with a unique theme, ranging from  bread, butter and jam-making to circus-skills to catapult and fort-building and survival-skills, to zany art, to nature-gnomes and fairy-homes!

Summer Camp is open to all children ages 3-12. Early Childhood will welcome campers ages 3-6½ while Early Grades will host campers ages 7-12.

Partial Day (9am-Noon) - $150 per week

Full Day (9am-3pm) - $200 per week

June 15-19: School Site
The Magic of Bread & Butter (ages 3-6½)
Let the kids share in the simple fascination of grinding flour, rising dough, baking bread, smooshing berries into jam, and churning cream into butter.

Recess All Day Long! (ages 7-12)
Summer’s child can’t imagine a better day! We’ll play lots of old fashioned favorites; hopscotch, Chinese jump rope, double Dutch, four square, kickball, cats cradle, hula hoop , jacks, marbles and clapping games. And of course, all the silly songs we can think of! To top it off, the kids will squeeze in as many chase games as possible, including sharks and minnows, every body is “it” and freeze tag.

June 22-26: Farm Property  
Farm Chores Are Fun (ages 3-6½)
Hard work can be fun especially when we’re on the farm! Come feed the animals, dig in the fields, water the crops, and help us build a scarecrow to watch over the berry patch

Catapults and Contraptions (ages 7-12)
Learn to utilize naturally found building materials to make all sorts of interesting projects.  Amaze your friends with hand made whirligigs, catapults, and ...?!

June  29-July 3: School Site
Where the Wild Things Are (ages 3-6½)
Sail away with us to a far away land of nonsense, roaring, growling and general ruckus making! Misbehave with the best of the best, all inspired by everyone’s favorite book by Maurice Sendak. We’ll wrap up the week with a supremely silly skit!


Circus Time (ages 7-12)
A wacky fun filled week of juggling, balancing, acrobatics and clowning around. The kids will get a chance to perform their acts at the end of the week.

July  6- 10: School Site
Our Feathered Friends (ages 3-6½)
Let’s create some special gifts for our friends, the birds. We will put together suet feeders, birdhouses, humming bird feeders and a bird bath.

Zany Art (ages 7-12)
Get ready to combine your creative talents with wild and crazy ideas.

 

July 13-17: Farm Property
Nature Gnomes & Fairy Homes (ages 3-6½)
If we are lucky, maybe we’ll have some
enchanted visitors this week, so let’s make them feel welcome with a sweetly decorated nook!

Survival Skills & Homestead Supplies
(ages 7-12)  Spend the week making soap, candles, dried berries and animal traps. We’ll also have a special guest, a survival specialist, helping us learn about edible plants, fire building, water gathering and lean-to shelters.

July 20-24: Farm Property
The Healing Garden (ages 3-6½)
Wouldn’t it be wonderful to know how to soothe a skinned knee or how to make a scrumptious tea. We’ll also be making lavender salves from natural ingredients right here on the farm!

Ultimate Fort Building & Capture the Flag
(ages 7-12)  Join us in perfecting the art of fort making, we’ll let our imaginations lead the way.  Then we’ll  try and protect our castles from assault with a rousing game of capture the flag.

July 27-31: Farm Property
Mud Pie Making & Flower Fairy Tea Party
(ages 3-6½)  Perfect your mud pie making skills and learn how to become the perfect host or hostess while we serve up silly recipes for our fairy friends.

Enchanted Boats  (ages 7-12)
Ever wonder how our brownie and gnome friends get around? This week the kids will learn how to construct very special ships and launch them in the pond to test their sea-worthiness.                      

Aug 3-7: School Site/Field Trip
Summertime Splash (ages 3-6½ and 7-12)That’s right -- FIELD TRIP! August is hot and waterplay is the way!

Aug 10-14: Farm Property
Life is a Picnic (ages 3-6½  and 7-12)
Don’t miss the summer camp grand finale! Summer wouldn’t be complete without an old fashioned picnic and we’ll get to have one everyday this week! On the agenda: ice cream making, gunny sack races, three legged races, scavenger hunt, lemonade making, watermelon seed spitting contest, croquet, silly relays, egg in the spoon race, and water balloons!
