Tamwood Camps – Vancouver SFU

Tamwood International Camps, a division of Tamwood International College, has been operating summer camps in Canada since 1992.

Every summer Tamwood operates a summer camp for international youth and teens at Simon Fraser University in the beautiful city of Vancouver, Canada.

An important feature of all of Tamwood's camps is the international mix of its campers. With campers from Europe, Asia, Mexico, USA, Canada and South America, Tamwood provides campers with an opportunity to learn about foreign people and cultures and to meet and make friends with young people from around the world.

VANCOUVER

Known as one of the world's most beautiful and vibrant cities, Vancouver is Canada's third largest city and has a population of over 2 million people, making it a great place to go to a summer camp! Situated on the west coast of Canada, Vancouver is only two hours by ferry from Victoria, three hours by car from Seattle Washington and two hours by car from Whistler Resort. Vancouver is a modern and safe city offering visitors stunning mountain and ocean scenery and a vast array of outdoor and entertainment options, events, attractions and services.

CAMP ACTIVITIES

Tamwood runs an ESL summer camp for juniors 7-12 and teen summer English program for teens 13-18 in Vancouver at SFU. Both the summer camp and the teen summer program happen on the university campus and feature English classes, exciting lessons in sports and creative activities, cultural events and sightseeing excursions in and around Vancouver. Accommodation options include residence on campus, host families and self-arranged.

Activities on and off campus include fun and exciting activities such as: Rock Climbing · Drama · Archery · Tennis · Badminton · Hiking · Martial Arts · Baseball · Basketball · Hiking · Swimming · Arts and Crafts · Volleyball· Soccer · E-mail · Football · Scavenger Hunts · Dance · Acting · Year Book · Ice Breaking Games · Kayaking in the pool · Talent Show preparation · Soccer Tournament

Campers make one full day and at least one half day excursion per week. Campers visit such places as: Whistler Resort · Victoria · City Water Slide Park · Fresh Water Lakes for Canoeing · Vancouver Aquarium · Grouse Mountain · Suspension Bridge · City parks and beaches.

FACILITIES

Tamwood's ESL summer camp for juniors in Vancouver is run on the beautiful campus of Simon Fraser University. Located on the top of Burnaby Mountain and surrounded by hundreds of acres of forest and trails, SFU campus feels like it is in the wilderness yet it is only a 25-minute drive from downtown Vancouver.

STAFF

All of the staff working at the Tamwood summer camp programs have been carefully selected for their enthusiasm, skills, experience and maturity. The English teachers are all qualified and experienced teachers. The activity leaders are all first aid certified and qualified to teach the activities they lead. Many of the activity leaders are university students and all of the staff love working with young people.

In 2008, the camps will run from June 29 to August 17, 2008, and students can come for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7 weeks. Students must arrive and depart from the camp on Sundays. Students whose fights arrive earlier or leave later than Sunday may have to find their own accommodation for the extra nights.
