The Summer Term is an opportunity for students who have completed their 9th, 10th, or 11th grade years to combine wilderness, community, and academic pursuits in a six-week summer program, giving students a taste of the semester school experience in a more condensed format. Mirroring many elements of our fall and spring semesters, the Summer Term has three components: Through our academic program, we explore sense of place, leadership, and environmental ethics. On two expeditions in the backcountry of the Great American West, we teach wilderness travel skills, use the mountains as an extended academic classroom, and develop our personal connections to each other and to nature. Finally, we create a small, residential community that requires the participation and commitment of each member, resulting in friendships and shared memories that will last a lifetime.
